Aromatherapy As Treatment for Perimenopause

Aromatherapy As Treatment For Perimenopause &Raquo; Blog

Aromatherapy can be administered through a diffuser (mixed with water and gently propelled into a room), on the skin mixed with a carrier oil, or used with an inhaler. I like the idea of an inhaler, because it can be conveniently carried with you, and you can use it over and over without any preparation. It’s about the size of a lipstick.

There are many ways to use aromatherapy, but the two most common in perimenopause include anxiety and sleep.

For anxiety consider preparing an inhaler with 5 drops of clary sage and 5 drops of rose geranium. For handling, put the wick of the inhaler in a glass dish, and then drip the essential oils onto the wick. Then use some tweezers to pick up the wick to return it to the inhaler. This prevents the oils from making contact with your skin. When you feel a wave of anxiety descending, inhale the scent using a few deep breaths.

For sleep, prepare your inhaler with 5 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 drops of chamomile and 5 drops of marjoram. Before sleep, inhale the scent five or so times using a deep breathing practice. Visualize calm thoughts.

It’s a good idea to label and date your inhalers. But they can easily last a year or two.

So consider aromatherapy to help improve your sense of well-being during perimenopause, and some essential oils may help with specific symptoms.

Aromatherapy is not considered very often as a treatment for symptoms in perimenopause. But consider this. The nasal passageways have a direct and very effective connection with the brain. Essential oils used in aromatherapy may help relieve some of the symptoms that you’re experiencing.

Dyna held leadership positions in the technology sector where she worked for over 20 years.

But that changed after reflecting on the unnecessarily rough ride she endured going through perimenopause. Dyna is now a certified health and nutrition coach who refused to give in after her doctor, dietician and trainer gave ineffective advice on how to navigate perimenopause. Turning to the women’s aging research, she figured things out and now helps women through their symptoms using a lifestyle approach so they can wake up energized each morning. Symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, hot flashes, joint pain, headaches, anxiety, sleep issues and more can all be managed. Dyna is a caring coach, a sought after guest on lifestyle podcasts and a blogger. She also advises progressive organizations on introducing a menopause policy into the workplace.
