Seasons Series: Wintering with Abbe Feber

Lynn’s note: Enjoy the Winter installment of the Season Series Interviews. December 21st is the shortest day of the year. Abbe and I are in a community of entrepreneurs that focus on supporting, lifting and navigating the ups, downs of economies, clients all while supporting our families.

I recently joked that only small Santa loving kids enjoy year end.

After navigating her own challenging path through infertility and pregnancy loss, Abbe channeled her experience into founding InCircle Fertility, where she guides others toward their dreams of parenthood.

She further shares her insights and expertise as host of the “Women’s Wellness with Abbe Feder” podcast, reaching and supporting even more individuals on their path to building a Family. She, her husband and their miracle twins live in Los Angeles.

When everything in LA is still pretending it’s 72 degrees, what does winter actually feel like for you?

AF: Ha – I actually Love winter in LA and I wish it were closer to an actual winter. As someone who grew up on the east coast I desperately miss the seasons. I love to walk but as an – ahem – woman who’s temperature suddenly gets very warm more quickly, I prefer only to walk when it’s chilly out so it feels refreshing. But I will say that if I go on a January hike and can be comfortably warm, see snow-capped mountains to my right, and the ocean to my left, I feel spiritually blessed and grateful. There’s also a relief that comes with winter in LA. When the weather is always great I feel pressured to get outside and be incredibly productive. Grayer and sometimes rainy days feel like the permission I need to rest sometimes.

What’s the one thing you only admit to your journal this time of year?

AF: Dear Journal, I am sorry I spent all year saying I was going to journal and then didn’t.

What’s one thing you’re craving more of even in winter?

AF: Time. The holiday season especially makes it feel like the end of the year is coming to a fast halt, and it gives me Anxiety. I try to make my mantra this time of year “I have plenty of time to do all that I need.” But sometimes it’s challenging.

There are books, poems, theories and science about winter hibernation. What part of you is asking to go dormant right now and which part refuses to slow down??
Back to loving the coziness. Hibernating is genius and if I could live in a state of red wine, games with my family, and a fire, I would. So the hustle energy is seeking a slow down. At the same time, as a business owner we all want to finish the year strong. Hard to slow that down….

If your energy this early winter, holiday season had a texture, would it be velvet, fog, or cold ocean water?

AF: Absolutely velvet. Velvet is tricky and complex because it is smooth and silky one way, but if you rub it backwards it can be rough. I love so much about this season: delicious foods, family, coziness. But too much of any can be rough – like backwards velvet.

I ask everyone these two questions—

What is your one ‘low’ wellness item you can’t live without.

AF: Epsom salt. I take a bath every night – it helps separate my day from bedtime. I also believe salt is very healing – so for a $4 bag of epsom salt you can cleanse, soak, refresh, and recover tired muscles. SO worth it.

What’s your one high end wellness item is worth the investment?

AF: Choosing one is hard. I love alllllll the wellness products. My newly discovered Vibra Plate (I use this one from Life Pro) is up there. It’s one of those trendy vibration plates you can use for Exercise, lymphatic drainage, and even as a relaxation tool. I have been loving it and notice major shifting in shoulder pain and lymphatic congestion.
