Springtime Tocsins

Springtime Tocsins &Raquo; Ai Gifer Lut

AI Spellcheck Wait, wait… I didn’t use ChatGPT or Google’s BARD to “genAIrate” this post. I promise. And, I didn’t misspell Tocsins in this posted title. Credit Artificial Intelligence (AI) is pretty neat for many applications, and I am a cheerleader for things that serve society. Yet, it will be many moons before a down-aging AI application is ready for you or me.  So here we go with my run-of-the-mill intelligence warnings. Tocsins As I’m not an English Ph.D. or a cunning linguist, I can’t say for certain that Tocsins and Toxins are homonyms or homophones. Words can be fun and... Continue Reading

Jabroni, Magic Mike, and the Game around Rihanna’s halftime show

Jabroni, Magic Mike, And The Game Around Rihanna’s Halftime Show &Raquo; Jabroni

The slang noun, Jabroni, expanded beyond its original use in professional wrestling to social media after the AFC Championship football game. We credit the Sheik and the Rock for their roles in getting this interesting noun into the dictionary: A few weeks ago, the KC Chiefs’ Travis Kelce challenged the Cincinnati mayor for his rather uppity comment. Kelce tweeted, “Don’t be a Jabroni”; Not endearing, but still utilitarian… You see, a Jabroni is a recruited underdog that cannot prevail against a superior force. Think of the also-ran team recruited to face the Harlem Globetrotters in basketball.... Continue Reading

Some Things National – Like Pizza Day And Love Your Heart &Raquo; Giphy Slouch To Strongman

Yes, I have been missing in action since late 2022. Oh, that my time away was spent on some enchanted island. Yet I have been head down and tail up finalizing my manuscript for Strong to Save.  This second non-fiction work is a fitness primer that implores Gen X to die harder and later…   You see, resistance (aka weight) training is a superlative down-aging and life-enhancing exercise. Period. A conceptual front cover for Strong to Save: Your Gen X imperative to die harder and later is shared to get your sarcomeres flexing. Now, it is about time to chat about Pizza and National Heart Month,... Continue Reading

Move Stuff To Cheat Death &Raquo; Dave Frost Goblet Squat Fotility 1219

Yes, I’ve been missing in action from weblogs. If I was still a Naval Academy Midshipman, I’d brace up and say NO EXCUSE Ma’am or Sir!  Yet that was many moons ago. My STRONG TO SAVE manuscript took precedence. So Generation X readers – be on the lookout fgr a Book release in mid-2023. Why did I choose the main Title STRONG to SAVE? And why will the sub-title focus on Generation X? There are three reasons for my title’s choice: I used to sing Eternal Father, Strong to SAVE as a venerable hymn for seafarers like me. There is just about nothing as important as Physical Strength to endure... Continue Reading

Twenty-Eight Summers Left &Raquo; Sos Camden Ref Son Of Stone

28 “As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.” Seneca Thanks to the Swedish Son of Stone (aka SoS) whose recent lyrics in 28 Summers Left fit me to a T: “Let’s make something great Of what is left now And focus on things That we have got now.” In a Camden interview about his unique rather unique song-writing, SoS confided that a theme of his music is “about the will to get back up again when life knocked you down…”  Not a bad theme for life – is it? One longevity study, that I believe to be darned accurate, suggests that with work and... Continue Reading

Power Potpourri &Raquo; Im A Survivor

Power is my theme for this potpourri of topics squeezed into one. Big C First, Kudos who are with us to celebrate National Cancer Survivor’s Day!         ‘Tis sad yet true that perhaps 20 percent of all cancers in our great country may be diet-related. Oy! We are what we eat… Estimates are that about 40% of Americans will develop cancer(s) in their lifetimes. Double Oy! In a bad news/good news way- the BIG “C” is our 3rd leading cause of morbidity in the USA. Right! Only Cardio-respiratory Disease and COVID viruses deaths were higher for the last two years. Cancer.org reported almost... Continue Reading

Weird ?!

Weird ?! &Raquo; Vitamin D Benefits

Weird In Shakespeare’s day, weird meant ‘having the power to control destiny’. Witches in the Bard’s MACBETH  gave rise to the sense ‘unearthly’ as Fates. With more than passing amusement, I noted that a once-in-lifetime “weird” astrological alignment happened yesterday. In full and open disclosure, I do peek at astrological predictions while wondering how much merit it is for both Jupiter and Neptune to align with Pisces after a period of 166 years.  Could it be that I and we “can expect a “mystical-slash-creative renaissance on both micro (personal) and macro (societal)... Continue Reading

Seasons Change, and so should you and I

Seasons Change, And So Should You And I &Raquo; Giphy

Guess Who? The Guess Who first sang its classic, NO TIME, in the summer of 1969. Ah, memories of those tough teen times come to me easily. Whether these NO TIME lyrics mean something profound or mean nothing is up to a listener to decide. Was it a Vietnam draft commentary by a Canadian? Or a reverse Dear John letter? I wonder why lyricist Randy Bachman first intended with this phrase: “Seasons change and so do I…” So, here I muse on the first day of Spring, 2022.  Do I invest a load of time thinking about my pro and con changes since 1969?  Or, should I invest my time and energy in future... Continue Reading

Moving Past Madness &Raquo; Sen Rubio Dst

Savings?! I am a firm believer in savings for one’s fiscal AND physical bank account.  But for sunlight? Not so much… You may recall that I applaud the legendary Muddy Waters who cautioned in song, “you know you can’t spend what you haven’t got.” You’ve made it into Daylight Saving Time, version 2022. That is unless you live in the smart states of Hawaii, Arizona that believe in standards. In full and open disclosure – for most of my 7-decades, I thought this annual time robbing move by our Government was plural – as in SAVINGS. Not! Our US Senate (that term stems from the same... Continue Reading

I Enjoyed Sixty-Nine &Raquo; Giphy

Sixty-nine?! I offer 69 as an upper number of fitness years, of filling in the holes of life, rather than alluding to an urban dictionary term. As the world, worm and COVID turn, I relish this chance to reflect on my 69 laps around our sun. Wow – we’re in our third year of the New Abnormal life caused by a virus. Oy!   I advocate that seventy is the new forty, so this Pisces is truly looking forward to his 70th orbit.  I hope that my lessons learned to this point may help you as well… If you are reading this post, you are a co-survivor of a scary and deadly pandemic. Whew! A Frosty spoiler... Continue Reading
