To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world.” -Dr. Seuss Lately, every time I mention to a stranger the ages of my grandchildren (5 years – 5 months) and how much I love them and their ages, they have all been saying – oh , just wait and they won’t be so cute when they’re teenagers. Seriously, like I don’t know what teenage years are like? As hard as teenage years may or may not have been, my kids were always kind human beings! I try not to watch too much of the news; however, when I do watch it often times there are stories about... Continue Reading

‘Love’ is a word that only recently has crept into our workplace vocabulary. And it’s an appropriate addition! Sustainable satisfaction and success demand work that people love. In many ways, effective leadership is a profound expression of love – love of learning and love of the organization and the people whose lives leaders affect on a daily basis. So, this month, in honor of Valentine’s Day, our Carnival will focus on what leaders can do to help others – and themselves – to love their work… and the results that follow. I know you’re going to love the insightful articles... Continue Reading
The word Galentine’s Day first was heard in February of 2010 during an episode of Parks and Recreation by Amy Poehler. In the episode, she says “What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas. —”Galentine’s Day,” Parks and Recreation, 2010. So although it’s not an official holiday, people everywhere... I love Valentines Day! Sometimes we just need a day to remind us to open our hearts to those we love. It can be as simple or as creative as you want and will always put a smile on someone’s face. It is about the gestures, not the gifts. I love that it is an all-inclusive holiday to share and I have a few ideas for you, as your kids or grandchildren reach that “tween” age. I have found as my grandchildren have gotten older they are fond of “quality” chocolate, thanks to their mother. So I have decided to get them one nice box of chocolates instead of several miscellaneous... Continue Reading
I LOVE the idea of gifting an experience to our grandchildren, especially now as they are getting a little older. Our five grandchildren range in age from 8yrs to almost 3yrs old. As very young children we would get them a few toys and would just love to watch them unwrap their gifts with so much joy and anticipation! However, as toys were passed down to younger siblings their toy boxes became overflowing and many pieces lost forever. One cool October morning while chatting over a cup of coffee about the upcoming Christmas shopping frenzy, my daughter said to me, “Mom, all the kids have enough... Continue Reading

Our favorite time of year is here and we just love shopping for gifts for our family and friends! Together, we’ve put together the best gifts for everyone on your shopping list. Many of these gifts we have purchased ourselves and are used regularly with our own grandchildren. We’ve also kept the price point in mind because of our growing families and have found the best mid-range gifts and stocking stuffers. Be sure to watch our social media stories on InstaGram and FaceBook because we’ll be adding to these gift guides over the coming weeks and sharing shopping links. We... Continue Reading
Let’s face it, we all have stress in our lives: gas prices, groceries, kids, grandkids, our health and the health of those we love. There are always stressors and worry in our lives. Is there a way to add some joy and peace in your life before the holiday rush? Have you heard of hygee (pronounced hoo-gah). The meaning of this word is a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of content or well being. The origin comes from the Danish. Did you know that Denmark is one of the happiest countries in the entire world (even though they experience 17 hours of... Continue Reading

“Something magical happens when parents turn into grandparents” We all remember the day, that we were told we would become grandparents. It’s the best feeling in the world, right? As grandparents, we have more patience, can laugh more, we realize that dishes can wait, laundry can wait to be folded, etc. when our grandchildren want us to play with them. We truly know how fast time flies by and there is nothing more precious to us than spending time (virtual or in-person) with our grandchildren. Did you know that there is an official Grandparents Day? West Virginian native,... Continue Reading

When my daughter, Meg and her husband, Adam joyfully announced to my husband and myself in January of this year that they were expecting, I immediately started a Pinterest board to plan a baby shower for them. This was the exciting news I was hoping for! I have helped plan baby showers for our other four grandchildren; however, this was different for me in a number of ways. First of all, we now had four little ones “wanting to help”, the shower would be at our home and Meg is our only girl! First things first, I recruited help: I have a wonderful daughter in law, Emily, who cheerfully... Continue Reading
