60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: Resistance, Thy Name Is Fear. Now What to Do?

  1. 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: Resistance, Thy Name Is Fear. Now What to Do? 2:56

Hello to you listening in Midrand, South Africa!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

For over 4 years now two really smart, savvy, and creative friend/colleagues and I have spent a weekly 90 minutes in a wonderfully supportive, encouraging, questioning, critiquing, hot seating, provocative, and  brainstorming MasterMind group. Before we get together we exchange our 4Rs from the prior week: Result, Reach, Resistance, Resource.

Ah, Resistance! Thy name is Fear. Making a move is a step we often don’t want to take because we feel afraid, bored, uncertain, anxious, tired, or just plain disgusted. It’s true that when the way ahead is unclear, Time can be the best guide. But it’s also true that we might begin by taking the first step, the one right in front of us, the one close in as poet David Whyte reminds us in his poem, Start Close In

Maybe like me you are learning that the sooner you face up to your Resistance and take that first step toward your task or project the more confident you’ll feel making progress and then asking yourself, “What took me so long?”

Story Prompt: Remember a time when you faced your Resistance and despite your fear boldly took that next step, and the next, and the one after that until …  What happened next? Write that story!

You’re always invited: “Come for the stories – stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe and spread the word with a generous 5-star review and comment – it helps us all – and join us next time!

Diane Wyzga Story Guide/Coach, Podcaster, Speaker & Trainer

Remember the first time you rode a bike and took your hands off the handlebars? And then because it felt fun and scary you did it again until you were streaking down a hill with the wind blowing in your face and your hands up over your head screaming, “Look ma! No hands!” That’s been the story of Diane's life. Showing up - maybe scared but not afraid - because when you fall down 7 you get up 8.

With 30 years in healthcare, business, law, higher education and storytelling Diane created a niche the world needs: helping socially conscious professionals and organizations connect, engage & succeed by crafting the stories that communicate their message. A recognized global podcaster (Stories From Women Who Walk and Daily 60 Seconds) Diane shares wisdom and interviews designed to help others become successful story creators. Speaker and Founder Engaged Storyism® Method.
