What is the Boise Girl’s Academy and why do so many places across the nation continue to profit off of “troubled teens”? This week I speak with Aliya Kasabian who at 16 years old found herself trapped in this place. We cover:
- The nightmare of being kidnapped in the middle of the night to go to Boise
- The bizarre rules that seem counterproductive to the mission of helping these young women
- The truly heart-breaking punishments girls faced when rules were not followed
- Why her parents thought they were “giving her a gift” by sending her there
This is part one and next week we pick up where we leave off and then talk about leaving the program, the PTSD still suffered, and what she is doing these days.

I am in admissions and advising by profession where I speak with students every day about their future and goals. I have spent a decade learning peoples life stories and what makes them tick. So, a few years ago I decided to take that passion for people and make a podcast. Through this I have been able to speak with a lot of amazing people. People like Bob Eubanks (The Newlywed Game), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Maddie Musselman (2x Olympic Gold Medalist), Francois Clemmons (Mister Rogers' Neighborhood), and countless others.
