Unforgettable Echoes: Unraveling War, Alzheimer'S &Amp; The Quest For Belonging &Raquo; Em Liddick

Join us for a candid heart-to-heart with EM Liddick, the author of ‘All the Memories That Remain.’ As a former Marine with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment, Liddick shares his intimate battles with post-traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD) and his experience caring for his father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Today, he leaves no stone unturned as we delve into the complex world of mental health.

Imagine what it’s like to find similarities between PTSD and Alzheimer’s. We dig into these similarities, particularly the resulting loss of identity and the fear it can induce. We also engage in a thoughtful discussion about memory, Sleep, and their profound influence on PTSD and Alzheimer’s. Liddick opens up about the arduous journey of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s, highlighting the critical balance between providing care and preserving the individual’s identity and autonomy.

Our conversation, however, doesn’t stop there. We examine the raw emotions that erupt when a loved one is diagnosed with a terminal illness and the delicate balancing act of helping them maintain autonomy while providing necessary care. We reflect on the power of memories, the often-overlooked bond between military siblings, and the impact of humor and sorrow on one’s journey dealing with PTSD and Alzheimer’s. Tune in to navigate the emotional terrain of PTSD and Alzheimer’s, foster compassion, and affirm the importance of making people feel seen and heard.

After helping care for her grandmother who had vascular dementia, Jennifer realized her Mother was showing signs of early onset Alzheimer’s. After the death of her father in 2017 Jennifer went searching for answers to many of the common questions and Alzheimer’s caregiver faces. Being a busy entrepreneur Jennifer realized that a podcast would be the easiest way to learn more about caregiving while completing other tasks.

Sadly, in late 2017 she only found one and it didn’t quite address what she was looking for, so she did the next best thing, and started her own. The Fading Memories podcast is now in it’s fourth year and despite the death of her Mom in March 2020, Jennifer is still talking to caregivers and still learning how to be an excellent caregiver. On the podcast she discusses caregiving, brain health, self-care and how to age well.
