The Worst of 2024: Lessons Learned from Flops

My goal has always been to inspire, connect, and showcase the joy of personal style. However, let’s be honest: not every blog post, social media idea, or product hits the mark. This year, 2024, was full of wonderful successes (as I shared earlier this week), but there were also moments that didn’t hit the high marks. One thing I try to do is analyze and learn from both the successes and flops.

Quote of the day: Your failures are your accomplishments because it makes you prepared for whatever it is that you are going to do next.” -Lee Daniels

It’s not always as easy to realize what content isn’t well-loved since Google and social media can take months to become popular.
But I still wanted to share what might be considered my “worst of 2024.”

And since there are no failures in life—just learning moments—here’s what I consider the worst of 2024 and what I learned.

Insider tip: What we learn from the worst of 2024 may not be the expected. Sometimes our lessons can be philosophical, like how blessed we are even in the midst of craziness.

Part of the worst of 2024 was a Google update and Pinterest update at the end of summer which affected many content creator’s sites including mine.
Considering that one way I make Money is from ads which is dependant on how many people visit my site, this was a huge dip for me.

That’s why I’ve been asking you to help me by sharing my articles in any way you can, either by sharing on a social media site or telling your friends.
I appreciate all of your help.

Blog Posts/Ideas That Missed the Mark

My Clothing Rental Box and 6 months later
In all reality, I can understand why many of you didn’t try the clothing rental box. Even though the first month was free, it might seem confusing or not worth the effort.
Truthfully, I wasn’t too sure about the service at first. Until I started getting boxes of clothing that were risk-free.
Then I became enamored with the idea and was hoping I could get you to think of the advantages of trying the free month.

Insider tip: I did not receive any commission for the free month. I received only a small amount if people continued using the service.

Lesson learned: Older women aren’t quite as open to trying new services like this. While I realize this, Rob always calls me a salmon swimming upstream in that I’m trying to push us out of our comfort zone. And I doubt I’ll stop trying.

How to Style Tank Tops in Winter

I’m a firm believer that we can make our clothing more versatile than we originally thought.
While wearing our heavy winter items in the summer isn’t practical, we can certainly wear many of our lightweight, summer clothing in the colder months by layering.

Lesson learned: Many women put away their summer items once winter rolls around, which I understand. But I still like to share this type of content.

Social Media Posts That Fell Flat

Dog Supplements

I’ve been typecast as a fashion influencer, so it’s no surprise that my pet and healthy living content doesn’t do as well.

Lesson learned: While experts would tell me to concentrate only on my niche, I believe we are multi-dimensional, and I like to share all types of ideas that affect us.

Long vest to cropped vest

I was super excited to use my handy-dandy trick to make this long vest into a cropped one.
But obviously, TikTok was not quite as fascinated.

Lesson learned: You can’t please everyone, and even if other people don’t love my outfits, I will dress for myself.

Outfits That Didn’t Impress

Not every outfit looks as good when I take photos as I think it would in my head.
I’m only showcasing 2 from 2024 but there were definitely more than this.

My thinking is if you aren’t making fashion mistakes, then you aren’t trying new combinations which in itself can be seen as failure.
Sticking with fashion pairings that you’ve always put together is a recipe for frumpy since we all know that fashion and style are fluid.

EVOLUTION is the name of the game.

Sunday’s Look

I love this sweater, but I don’t love it with these jeans. And the graphic t-shirt under it seems weird.

Part of it could be how I matched the shoes to the jeans. There’s nothing interesting or fun about the look.

Tuesday’s look

While I love each item by itself and I think the color combination is cool, somehow the items don’t work together.

Maybe there’s too much asymmetricalness?

And the skin-colored shoes aren’t fun either.

What Went Back After Buying

Room Cooler

We ended up ordering 2 different versions of this room cooler for our office.
Neither was ideal so we decided to buy one that vented outside.

Eyeliner

The first version of this brand stopped working after a couple of days. They refunded me and sent me a new one which was better.

However, I found an even better one that is less expensive since then.

JUST THIS BRAND of cord organizers

Cord organizers have made my kitchen cabinets a much better place.

However, they aren’t all created equal.
After falling in love with this brand, I ordered the 4 piece set from another brand shown here because I didn’t need 6 of them.

HUGE mistake. Stick with the brand that works.

Alarm Clock

As we were trying to get away from electronics near our bed, we wanted an analog clock that lit up.

This clock was fine during the day, but you had to press a button in order for it to light up at night.

So, instead, we bought these and they are perfect.

Why I Share the Flops

Highlighting what didn’t work might seem unusual, but it’s all part of the journey. Fashion and life are about experimentation, and not every experiment is a success. By sharing the less-than-stellar moments, I hope to show that it’s okay to take risks, learn from them, and move forward with newfound Wisdom.

Here’s to a fabulous 2025—and embracing the fun, the flops, and everything in between!
