Mimic Monday: 3 Ways To Refresh A Pinterest Look

I have a Pinterest board named Mimic for interesting and fun outfits I would like to recreate. Gone are the days of boring outfits. I want to try new things and tickle my creativity.
That doesn’t mean you have to have to buy new stuff. There are many ways to refresh a Pinterest look even if you don’t have the exact clothing items.

Quote of the day: “A river cuts through a rock not because of its power but because of its persistence.” James N. Watkins

I always like to think of how you can maximize your wardrobe with what you already have. Many of the ideas I showcase are meant to “teach you to fish” instead of just buying a fish. Sure, you can always buy more clothing, but how wonderful if you can wear what you have, right?

That’s why you should sign up for the emails below because I share inspiration from others along this same line as well as other fun. Besides the free eBook, my email family gets personal tidbits of what’s going on in my life along with other happenings, sales, information, giveaways, extra photos, and interesting articles.

I wanted to explore this Pin of a woman wearing a lilac sheer puff sleeve top under a strappy black dress.

I’m sharing 3 different ideas to refresh a Pinterest look. There are articles on my site using this same idea.

The secret is not to get caught up in the clothing itself but to think about color combinations, the concept of the outfit, or just the vibe.

How To Start with a Refresh of a Pinterest Look

If you’ve pinned a photo, there’s a reason you did.

Maybe you have a similar item or maybe you just like the look.

Start by analyzing what you really like about the Pin that caught your eye.

For me with the lilac sheer top, I liked this idea of layering it. It’s not one that I use often, yet it looks wonderful.
I even have a couple of sheer items in my closet and have even talked about 5 ways to style a sheer top. However, I don’t have a sheer lilac top like the one in this Pin.

1-The easiest way to refresh a Pinterest look is to copy it with similar items.
2-As visual creatures, we notice color first and foremost, so take account of the color scheme and use that. You can do this even with totally different clothing items.
3-Look at the layering or way an outfit was put together.

One Idea To Refresh A Pinterest Look

Sheer Top Under Strappy

Sometimes we don’t purchase an item because we can’t figure out how to style it. I was that way with sheer items at first. Obviously, you don’t just wear them as is, so you should layer with them (or have a really cute bra).

For some women, this can be a turnoff. Yet I think it’s good to try some of these challenges so we don’t look the same day in and day out.

Sheer tops are a great way to be covered yet not. I bet everyone has a camisole that would be the perfect layering item under a sheer layer. Or layer over it like in the featured Pin.

I took a sheer ivory top and layered a lilac cami over it. The black shorts were my nod to the black dress of the Pin.
My thoughts: I loved this and thought it worked perfectly.

Same Color Combination As Pinterest Look

Refresh a Pinterest Look-Same Colorway

Even if you don’t have something sheer or you don’t like the feminine aspect of the puff sleeves, you can imitate the colors to refresh a Pinterest look.

For this idea, I took a lilac dress and layered a black vest over it.
Both of these items are ages old in my closet as proven by these older photos:
Black vest from 2016 (and same shorts as the photo above with the ivory sheer top)
Lilac dress from 2020

I love how vests are making a comeback on the fashion scene again. Here’s a couple that might float your boat for a reasonable amount of Money.

My thoughts: I wouldn’t have thought to put these colors or pieces together on my own, so I thought this turned out good.

Sheer Top With Strappy Dress In Different Colorway

Same Concept-Different Vibes & Colors

The original pin is feminine due to the puff sleeves and pastel color of the sheer top.

Therefore, I wanted to put a refresh on this Pinterest look that was edgier along with a different colorway.

I found this ombre blue strappy dress and layered it over a studded black sheer top. I’ve worn this black top over a grey shirt in the past.

Studded items do give off an edgy vibe yet they can be modest or layered to be modest.

My thoughts: While I like how it looks, the blue dress is made of a thin material. Because of that feature, the studs of the sheer top poked through the dress which annoyed me. If I had a strappy dress that was wool or thicker material, I might like this combination better.
