6 Wardrobe Tools That Changed My Life
It may sound like an exaggeration that these 6 wardrobe tools have changed my life. But it’s that thing where you look back and think, how did I live without these for so long?
Quote of the day: “Clarity is freedom. Know what is important to you and it will grant you the freedom to ignore everything else.” James Clear
Some of these wardrobe tools I have had for ages, and some have only been part of my life for the past year or so.
But all of these wardrobe tools can fill a need depending on your closet and wardrobe situation.
In fact, it’s one of the reasons you should sign up for the emails below. It’s things like these that I share as mini-reviews or just things I’ve purchased lately. Besides the free eBook, my email family gets personal tidbits of what’s going on in my life along with other happenings, sales, information, giveaways, extra photos, and interesting articles.
I’m a big fan of organization with many other articles to prove it.
So let’s explore these wardrobe tools in alphabetical order.
1-Hole Punch
My mom bought one of these years ago, and I’ve borrowed it non-stop.
It’s incredibly useful to add holes to your belt or even purse straps.
Insider tip: Since I love to thrift belts, this wardrobe tool is valuable because many times the belts I find are not exactly my size. Sometimes I need to make it bigger and sometimes I need to make it smaller.
Amazon has many different brands of these, and many are less expensive than the one I have. I’m sure they are all very similar. I can’t say if the $20 ones are better than the $10 ones.
Pros:
Easy to punch a hole in leather even if you aren’t very strong.
The hole is perfectly round (if you’ve ever tried to do this with a pair of scissors, then you know what I mean).
Cons:
It’s another gadget that you have to find a place to store it.
2-Hangers -Multi Layer
Even though I try to stuff as much in my closet as possible, I am NOT a hanger snob. Sure, it might be nice to have all matching hangers, but I am too frugal to care about that detail.
What I think is important, is being able to use as much space functionally in my closet.
That’s why I love these multi layer clothes hangers.
The ones pictured are the ones I have, but they have been redesigned for easier removal of the clothing item.
Now they are made where the side part is open.
Or there are some that the arm swings open.
Both of these varieties would make it simpler to put the pants on and take them off the hanger.
Pros:
You can store more pants (or I’ve folded skirts over the rods before) in one area because you are using vertical space.
Cons:
It can be hard to access if your clothes are too tightly packed together.
3-Laundry Love Book
This is the only book that I’ve checked out from the library and then bought it after I read it.
The section on stain removal is priceless to keep your clothing looking new and stain-free.
I know in the past, stains would get the best of me and I would end up purging something because I couldn’t get the stain out.
Insider tip: I have an Amazon store delegated to Laundry which includes the stain packets I carry in my purse as well as all of the equipment that the author of the book recommends.
I don’t use the Tide To-Go pens because it has some toxic ingredients in them that I am trying to phase out of my life.
Pros: The Laundry Love book is not only educational but humorous. Who knew that laundry could be something that would make you giggle?
I keep mine in the laundry room cabinet with all of my stain-removal products.
Cons: The book has many ideas that I don’t follow but he makes great points.
4-S-Hooks
These may look like hardware that you’d be more apt to use in the garage, but I consider them fabulous wardrobe tools for organizing.
They can be used to organize any of these items on a rod. I use a curtain rod many times:
-Necklaces
-Bracelets
-Belts including self belts
-Purses
-Jeans or shorts if you hang them from their belt loops
Pros:
When you place items on s-hooks, it allows you to push them around easily so you can have more space for wider objects.
You can use an empty wall for this storage organizational idea. Hooks are great, but they are stationary.
Cons:
When you start having trouble fitting all your items on one rod, then check out the double shower hooks instead. They are more expensive but can give you extra space.
5-Steamer
I have a long history with steamers. For at least 12 years I used a full-sized steamer (similar to this one) that I stored in my laundry room and would steam my clothing before putting the clothes away in my closet.
The disadvantage of that habit was my clothes might still get wrinkled since my closet was so stuffed.
And I found that my full-size steamers would need to be replaced about every 3-4 years.
Insider tip: I have an iron and I use it for sewing alterations, but I find a steamer more convenient to use for de-wrinkling.
One of my friends suggested this hand-held steamer for Travel, and I fell in love with it.
So much so that I’ve changed my way of using a steamer.
Now I keep it stored in the master bathroom (next to the closet) and use it when I pull out the wrinkled clothing that I’m going to wear for the day.
Pros:
It heats up fast and I can put it away as soon as I’m done.
Small enough for packing in a suitcase for travel.
Cons:
It doesn’t have a holder for the clothing hanger as the full-size steamer does. For most of my items, I use the bathroom door knob or hang it over the door.
A steamer does not de-wrinkle clothing quite as sharply as an iron does. I’m okay with that, but it’s something to consider.
6-Valet Bar
I have had the same valet bar for over 20 years. It’s moved with me from house to house and closet to closet.
Each time that I move, it ends up in a different area of my closet, but it’s indispensable to me.
Pros:
It’s a wonderful way to store your outfits for the next day/s.
Cons:
You have to find a wall where the bar can be pulled out yet you won’t run into it and poke your eye out.
