Easy, Healthy, and Exciting School Lunch Ideas For Kids

Back-to-school season is just around the corner, so you know what that means; mornings are consumed by coming up with ideas on what to make for kid’s lunches or if you’re a bit more of a strategist, Sundays are dedicated to preparing weekly meal plans.

While these plans of action work, school lunches can be a real challenge for those who want to be quick about packing up kid’s lunches without compromising the nutrition they get, or worse, coming home with a still full lunchbox. Try these ideas to get them more excited about lunch!

Taco Bar Surprise

Surprise kids by making their very own taco bar (or taco box). This is perfect for days when you have a lot of bits and pieces sitting in your fridge that you can just heat up in the microwave. Start with a taco shell or tortilla wrap filled with your chosen meat and cheese then add their favorite veggies on the side.

Serve with easy and healthy dips of guacamole and salsa and make sure to pack the dips in a secure dipper. To add more element of surprise, wrap them up with a light wrap!

Bento Box

Bento boxes are one of the easiest ways you can assemble balanced meals without too much work. It allows you to portion the food and will make it more fun for kids to see the colorful meal they have! After all, kids don’t really reach for the healthy options first in those zip-close bags.

Pack your chosen meal like rotisserie chicken salad lunch (you can opt for a store-bought rotisserie chicken to make things easier), or a breakfast for lunch meal with eggs, berries, and bagel, in an equally fun Bento style Lunch Box that they can accessorize with eco-friendly utensils.

Charcuterie

On days when you don’t have the time to cook lunch, you can get creative with charcuterie lunchboxes. When we get right down to it, kids also love cheese, crackers, and easy to eat fruits! It’s a great way to get them to snack on foods that are rich in nutrients. Make sure to pick healthy foods that they like to eat and add the colorful fruits and veggies you’d like them to try.

Whether you’re trying this for the first time or not, using a lunchbox with a variety of compartments will complete the charcuterie experience. This one even has a special treat spot for the chips or chocolate!

With these ideas, you can easily whip up delicious, healthy lunches for children. We’re sure that even their classmates will love it too and will jack up the “cool” grandma!
