National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
As we observe the 82nd anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombing this December 7th, we reflect on a day that profoundly changed our nation’s history. This attack precipitated the United States’ entry into World War II, a conflict that spanned from 1939 to 1945 and claimed the lives of approximately 70 to 85 million people, about 3% to 4% of the global population at the time.
The Loss of American Lives
The Pearl Harbor attack alone resulted in the tragic loss of around 2,400 American lives, a harrowing reminder of the horrors of war. On this National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of those who perished and pay tribute to the veterans who fought valiantly for freedom and democracy against the Axis powers of Japan, Germany, and Italy.
The Sacrifices Made
The sacrifices made by “The Greatest Generation” during this period were monumental. Their steadfast commitment to values of humility, integrity, and service helped to overcome the threats of Nazism and Japanese Imperialism and paved the way for a more peaceful world.
We Will Never Forget
President Franklin D. Roosevelt aptly called this day “The Day of Infamy,” signifying its significant impact on the course of the 20th century and beyond. It was a day that not only marked a turning point in global history but also a moment that saved countless lives from persecution.
As we remember and honor these brave individuals, let us also reflect on the brighter future they fought to secure. Their Legacy inspires us to strive for a world characterized by peace and justice.
God Bless America, and a heartfelt thank you to our Greatest Generation for your immeasurable contributions to the freedoms we enjoy today.
