Last Sunday, two weeks before my 68th birthday, I laced up my runners and ran my second half marathon for 2025 in the run2cure event — but the real highlight wasn’t crossing the finish line. It was hearing the cheers of my grandsons as I came up to the finish line. Shouts of ‘Go Nan!’ spurred me on. Their hugs and ‘You were great, Nan’ filled my heart with joy and pride. I’m proud that I’m leading by example and showing the boys that anything is possible if we stay active and healthy. The boys weren’t just spectators, either. Both ran their own 3km races, full of determination and big smiles. Ethan came in 5th running the course in 14 minutes! Elliot who is 7 ran with his Dad and came in at 22 minutes. They did so well. The Run2Cure raises funds and awareness for research into neuroblastoma, a rare childhood Cancer. Held at the beautiful New Farm park by the Brisbane river, it was such a wonderful Family day with events for everyone. Distances were 21.1km half marathon, 10km, 5km, 3km and 1km.
