True Man Tip of the Day – Are You Asking or Telling? Unraveling Communication Styles

Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, once said, “Asking and hearing people’s opinions has a greater effect on them than telling them, “Good job.” Now, of course, we all want to be told, “Good job.” However, as a leader in life, whether it’s with your family or at your job, are you asking good questions and really probing people to understand what they’re feeling?

Too many people make the mistake of thinking they know the answer to what someone is thinking without asking questions. When we don’t ask questions, we make assumptions, and you know how that saying goes. To be a leader in life, ask questions, don’t tell people what you think they need to hear.
