  1. Life, Death and The Deadbook: A Conversation With Tripp Tillery Dave Roberts 42:30

In this episode of The Teaching Journeys Podcast, host Dave Roberts speaks with Tripp Tillery about The Dead Book, an initiative inspired by Tripp’s late mother, Susan. The Deadbook helps individuals plan for their eventual passing, providing a comprehensive guide to ease the administrative burden on their loved ones. Tripp shares his deeply personal experiences with Grief, the importance of facing mortality, and how understanding death can lead to a more fulfilling life. They also discuss the benefits of open conversations about death and how The Deadbook aims to foster a society more comfortable with this inevitable topic.

Tripp’s Bio and Contact Information

Tripp was born and raised in a suburb of Atlanta, GA. During his high school years, his parents divorced, after which Tripp lived with his mother Susan. He graduated high school from Mount Paran Christian School, and attended Georgia College where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Economics and met his future wife Jessica. After college Tripp entered the corporate world and worked in various roles of increasing responsibility for two organizations over 12 years. As he gained higher level experience Tripp began to hope for a role that was more rewarding than simply maximizing profits, but nothing presented itself.

Tripp had always been very close with his mother, right up until the day she suddenly passed away in August 2022. Her death left Tripp shattered, wondering how he would move forward without his mother, mentor, best friend and anchor. As an only child, Tripp was named executor of his mother’s estate, and was responsible for the myriad of administrative tasks that encompasses during the devastating and emotional time of grieving her loss. His mother luckily left him with what she called her “Deadbook”, which provided instructions and relevant information for how to administrate her estate, removing some of the stress and burden, and allowing Tripp to focus more on grieving.

In 2023, with the goal of carrying on Susan’s Legacy of love, Tripp and his wife Jessica founded The Deadbook. Their mission is to help us plan for the inevitable and encourage society to talk about death more openly in hopes that we, and in turn our loved ones, are more prepared when our day comes.
