Cooperation with someone living with brain change can get more and more difficult as the damage progresses but there are many simple techniques that can help you along the way. One is to STOP asking Yes/No Questions. As their ability to understand what you are asking decreases and their fear of the unknown increases they learn by trial and error to just say NO!!! You would be better off to give then an Either-Or and let them feel in control as long as possible. Offer two good answers so either will work.
Many times we can be flexible and they can feel vindicated and still in charge and everybody walks away happy. Follow Teresa Youngstrom at www.teresayoungstrom.com or on YouTube and Spotify on Memory Care with Teresa Youngstrom for more great insights and tips!
