With the temperatures in the cooler range for the week, I took a cue from my friend Mireille, who said she was styling her jeans before it got too warm.
I took that idea and ran with it so I could show you a variety of jeans for my daily looks.
Quote of the day: “There are two ways to be happy: change the situation or change your mindset towards it.” Unknown
I think one of the absolute best parts about modern style and shopping is the fact that you can find such a selection of sizes, colors, and styles.
It behooves us to have a diverse selection of jeans in our closet since variety is the spice of life, eh?
The goal was to pull out a week’s selection of jeans in different styles, lengths, and washes to create fun and unique daily looks. You tell me…how did I do?
Insider tip: I wasn’t super happy about all the looks, particularly Friday’s. But I believe that it’s just as beneficial to analyze the outfits we don’t love as it is to analyze the ones we do love.
I think you would enjoy it if you signed up for the emails below. Besides the free eBook, my email family gets personal tidbits of what’s going on in my life along with other happenings, sales, information, giveaways, extra photos, and interesting articles.
SATURDAY–Cropped Flares
When evaluating flare jeans, I think mirroring that flare with the top half can be perfection.
The last time I wore these jeans, I tucked my top in the front only, YET the sleeves had flares. This time, I wore a peplum-like top (seen when I was curvy with padding).
I also wore a menswear pink vest and used the trick I’ve been obsessing about allowing me to add bling to the vest. This video shows how I created the bling.
Since my vest is light colored, and the beads are clear, it’s extra without being too in your face,
SUNDAY –Mini Bell Bottoms
While I would say this isn’t my favorite outfit, I wanted to try the idea of wearing a dress over jeans again. I loved it when I did it on Sunday a couple of weeks back.
Since I don’t have many dresses with a big slit in the front, I found this one with slits on the side and thought I’d knot the front to show off the jeans.
I took the clip out after these photos (another good reason to take selfies daily).
For my variety of jeans, I copied the dress’s flow with bell bottoms.
And wore these mules that I’ve had for almost 20 years. You can see them in their entirety when I wore them with a dress.
This leopard belt is still available for only $12 and use my code JODIE15.
I layered under the dress with a hoodie and added turquoise accents.
MONDAY–Skinny Jeans
The whole idea of sharing a variety of jeans is to include all the types that might be in your closet.
Which is why I hope you didn’t throw out all of your skinny jeans.
There are modern ways to wear them.
2 of my ideas are
1-Pair it with a boyfriend or longer blazer.
2-Make sure you have modern footwear.
I wrapped the blazer tighter instead of buttoning it at the button area. To keep it closed, I used a cardigan clip, and safety pin and added a tassel for decor.
Then I found this “men’s tie” idea on Pinterest where you fold it up and attach it with a cardigan clip.
My footwear of choice lately is Mary Janes, and this gold metallic pair brought out the gold in the tie and tassel.
By wrapping the blazer this way, I like how it creates an asymmetrical hemline. I know my friend, Tresi won’t like it, but I do!!
TUESDAY–Wide Leg Jeans
It’s one of my favorite graphic tees…”World’s Okayest Wife” because I would fail the wife requirements of the 50s.
So let’s talk wide-leg jeans. I’ve shared many articles in the past with ideas of what to wear with them. Even the crew came through with some outfits.
One secret is not to let the top overwhelm you. Tucking is good, but any kind of shortening and/or fitting of the top can work brilliantly.
For me, I styled this shacket by buttoning the last button BEHIND me. Fun, right? This is how it originally looked.
I added:
-bright pink Mary Janes, not comfy at all but cute.
-bright pink thrifted belt where the leather is peeling, so I used fingernail polish to fill in the spots.
-thrifted pearl necklace.
-there’s a secret under the t-shirt. You’ll see it soon enough.
WEDNESDAY–Barrel Jeans
Okay, let’s talk about the controversial barrel jeans. It’s amazing how many women I’ve heard try them and are super surprised how much they love them.
That was my reaction too when I bought this pair-Old Navy got them right. I analyzed them and decided they work because you get the flow of the wide jeans, yet the hemline is tamed down and not overwhelming since it tapers in.
Now, ladies, let’s just realize that these are basically the tapered jeans we wore in the 80s/90s and loved.
Insider tip: Jeans labeled “barrel jeans” aren’t all created equal. Just try them on and ask a friend for their opinion.
Then to top it off, I combined 3 different prints in the top half. Horizontal stripes, sun print, and vertical stripes.
As well as leopard print ballet flats that I’ve had for over 12 years.
THURSDAY–Cargo Jeans
I wore these jeans with a vest last year. The crew has talked about what shoes to wear with cargo pants and even talked about why the trend is useful.
Today I tried to dress up the jeans with a jacket that I wore back in my working days. Even though the jacket is longer and not cropped, I think leaving it open helps the proportions.
And the fact that I tucked in the 2 tops helps also. It may only look like one top, but it’s an open-weave hand-knitted top over this purple top worn before with capris.
I wore purple booties and accessorized with gold jewelry.
FRIDAY-Cuffed Straight Leg Jeans
I don’t have many plain straight-leg jeans because they seem too ordinary to me. However, I did thrift 2 pairs that were too long so I could cuff them.
Style idea: I like to consider how I can change up an item once a trend has passed. For these cuffed jeans, I can always uncuff them and shorten them to any length I prefer. Remember, we are the boss of our clothes.
I have worn this orange backless top over another top in the past and I’ve worn it alone.
Using a scarf attached to the ties was a way to make it less cropped and create a belt around my midsection.
It’s probably the last time I’ll be able to wear booties, so I took advantage of the cool weather.
