Spring is all about light, bright, and pastel shades, right? Well, not necessarily! If you love your darker hues but want to make them feel fresh for the new season, you’re in the right place. Today, we’re exploring three fabulous ways to wear dark colors in spring, straight from our latest adventure in stylish layering.
Quote of the day: “Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind.” David G. Allen
Dark colors can have a place in your spring wardrobe when you style them with the right textures, layers, and color pairings.
We wanted to show how you can keep wearing some of your winter items or maybe you have darker items even for spring. With that being said, I still believe in the idea of having a variety of colors in your closet. Even if they don’t work for your complexion, they can be worn on the bottom half or layered.
Insider tip: Colors are NOT seasonal. We may think they are, but it is absolutely fine to wear ANY color in ANY season. Need more proof. Check out the other articles below.
Out of “season” color styling:
Wearing light pink in autumn
Olive green for spring
Styling summer colors in winter
As much as I love my site, Jodie’s Touch of Style, I really enjoy putting together my daily emails. I consider my emails an extension of my blog that is chocked full of positive inspiration that one friend calls a “Variety Show.”
I include articles, videos, and posts that strike my fancy and since I have no siblings to share with, I share with you.
Grey is often associated with cooler seasons, but it’s a fantastic neutral to transition into spring. The key? Infuse it with personality and whimsy!
In this outfit, the grey skirt works perfectly with a lighter-colored graphic tee.
The peachy hues in the top warm up the grey, making it feel more seasonal.
Details:
-Cathie’s skirt is 2 pieces in one. The short, opaque skirt is connected to the tulle skirt.
-If you are loving the trendy sneakers look, but don’t want to pay a lot for them, Cathie has 4 pair of these from Walmart (in different colors) and says they are comfy.
-Nothing says spring like adding a denim jacket over your look, yet she grounded the outfit with black footwear and a black purse.
Insider tip: While your shoes and purse don’t have to match, it’s an easy way to incorporate another color.
If you’re a fan of deep, rich colors like dark green, you can still keep them feeling fresh for spring! The trick is to balance them with flowy, light fabrics and accessories that brighten the look.
I wore this dark green fitted dress with a sheer, ruffled tunic. The idea is similar to layering 2 dresses and is a fabulous way to wear tunics since it’s not as trendy to wear them with leggings.
Details:
-A bad hair day meant some sort of coverage as discussed recently. I wore this felt hat but also used my faux bun to gather up all of the unruly ends.
–These Ros Mary Janes (more comfy than some of my sneakers as reviewed lately) were decorated with home decor tassels that I strung through the strap.
–This flexible necklace is all over my FB feed so I pulled mine out from ages ago and wore it.
Insider tip: Purses that have changeable straps make for easy coordination with outfits. You can find additional straps on Amazon. I bought the purse at Goodwill.
Who says dark colors can’t play together in spring? This mint-and-burgundy pairing is the perfect example of how to mix dark shades by using a print item to pull it all together.
The striped tee underneath adds a fun, casual element that gives a hint to the mint and burgundy. While the stripes aren’t the exact same colors as the shirt and jeans, your eye realizes they work.
Details:
-A dark belt and dark sneakers keep the outfit grounded.
-These sneakers are from the sustainable brand, Cariuma. If you believe all of their literature, then they are truly amazing. (I’m not saying I don’t believe their marketing, I’ve just never done the research to see if it’s all true. But here’s what they say about their sustainability practices which is impressive.) They have men, women, and kids sneakers.
-Eyeglasses are a great way to add personality to your daily look. With the advent of budget-oriented online glasses, you can have many different pairs that coordinate with your ensembles. This brand gives you 35% off the entire order, excluding sales frames with code Jodie35.
Insider tip: If you are unsure how to order eyeglasses online, I created a step-by-step tutorial as I’ve done it over 40 times.
Dark colors don’t need to be packed away when spring arrives! By playing with textures, layering, and color contrasts, you can seamlessly transition your favorite deep hues into the new season.
Think about trying new color combinations that mix dark colors with lighter colors and incorporating “springy” things like sheer fabrics and florals.
It’s the recipe for success on how to wear dark colors in spring.
