Enormous Variety: What To Wear In Arizona

With the extreme heat in Arizona in the summer, we wanted to give examples of how you can still look stylish yet stay cool with a variety of clothing items.
The 4 of us approached what to wear in Arizona with different clothing bottoms and fabulous looks for a boatload of inspiration.

Quote of the day: “Why fit in when you’re born to stand out.” Dr. Seuss

There’s not just one kind of clothing for what to wear in Arizona. You can incorporate dresses, skirts, shorts, pants, or even capris into the mix and still be stylish, temperature-appropriate, and comfortable.

The four of us are not only showcasing different options of clothing items, but fun color combinations as well as giving examples of how accessories can take you from ho-hum to marvelous.

This isn’t the first time we have talked about what to wear in Arizona in the heat. Here are other outfits for your viewing pleasure.

You should definitely sign up for the emails below. Besides the free eBook, my email family gets personal tidbits of what’s going on in my life along with other happenings, sales, information, giveaways, extra photos, and interesting articles.

In order of shortest options to longest, let me introduce Lesley wearing shorts, Charlotte wearing capris, Valerie wearing pants, and myself wearing a maxi dress.
Any of these outfits is a wonderful representation of what to wear in Arizona.

Insider tip: It’s also interesting to see how many of our items are thrifted or from clearance places. You don’t need to spend a lot of Money to look great.

Stylish Options For What To Wear In Arizona

Lesley: Linen Shorts Outfit

In Lesley’s words: “Both tops are linen and the shorts are a linen blend. I’ve added more linen to my closet recently after steering away from it for many years due to the wrinkle factor.
It still wrinkles, but I’ve gotten more tolerant with myself for not looking sharp-pressed all of the time.”

Insider tip: I love how Lesley’s attitude towards linen has changed. For those of us in Arizona, we learn fast how linen really is more comfortable in the heat. One secret if you still dislike the wrinkles is to look for linen blends. They don’t wrinkle as much.

One of my favorite aspects of Lesley’s outfit is how she added a third color with her red shoes, hat, and accessories.

And, wearing the gingham blouse over the white column of color creates a very recreateable look for anyone.

BTW, Lesley is proof that you can wear a baseball cap and still look classy and fabulous.

What I like about shorts at this stage of the game, is you can find them of varying inseams to fit your comfort level.

Insider tip: If you can’t find a pair with the length you prefer, have a pair of pants cut to that length. Or look at men’s shorts.

Charlotte: Capris for Older Women

As my mother is 86 years old, she is most comfortable in capris most days. This pair has been in her closet for over 6 years when we worked with the company, Ethyl. This brand is also found at the local boutique, Just Be Youtiful, which we frequent and JBY will ship in the US.

While capris get a bad rap, I always say it’s how you style something that makes a difference.

For instance, by taking this large scarf and creating a vest out of it, you make the vest the focal point of the look.
It’s perfect for what to wear in Arizona because both the top and vest are cotton and flowy.

Insider tip: Here is a video on how to make your scarf into a vest. It’s an easy, no-sew hack that everyone can do.

With this vest as the inspiration, my mom used the same color scheme for her outfit.

The color straw bag is iconic for the season, and it’s always beneficial to have a hat on hand when exploring.

Linen And Flowy For What To Wear In Arizona

Valerie: Flowy Pants as What to Wear in Arizona

One secret of what to wear in Arizona is to be covered as much as possible when you are out in the sun.

Sun exposure can make you feel hotter, so being covered in this low-humidity environment is the way to go. That’s why finding items made of natural materials is key.

Valerie chose linen pants and a linen top for our showcase of what to wear in Arizona.

Loose, flowy pants are essential for staying cool yet covered. These linen pants are both stylish and functional.

Insider tip: Another suggestion for linen and wrinkles is to pick printed fabric. You don’t notice wrinkles (or sweat) as easily with a print.

Valerie is using the shawl clips on her top to create a square neckline without putting a hole in the fabric.
I made a video to show how to use these pins. Just Be Youtiful has a variety of them which she gets from a local woman who makes them. Reach out to Kym to ask her what she has in stock. They are under $10.

I also love how Valerie decorated this vintage crochet purse with a bow.

Summer Outfit

Jodie: Statement Maxi Dress

I found this maxi dress in a bin full of things that were $1 at a local store. Crazy, right? There were all kinds of things in the bins we recognized from Target and we took advantage of the prices.

I was enthralled with the colors of this dress and even though I couldn’t try it on, I figured I could somehow alter it if I needed to. It was $1. I couldn’t buy the material for that.
It is on eBay if you are looking for one. There are a couple of sizes for example here and here.

It fit great and even shrunk a little when I finally washed it, so now I can wear it with flats.

Insider tip: It’s a tad big in the waist area, so I used my Maggies Magnets to pull the material together. Especially because it’s a print, it’s not super obvious even when I don’t have the sling purse across my body.

Because the dress is so colorful, I chose ivory shoes, a purse, and a hat to compliment it. The dress was a tad low in the front, but my colorful bra filled in as a camisole instead of having to add a different layer.

I thought these statement earrings were a good match for the dress. Anything smaller might have gotten lost in my curly hair.
