But THAT Won’t Work – 5 Ways That WILL
“Business opportunities are like buses. There’s always another one coming.” – Richard Branson
When did you last notice someone spending lots of time and energy sharing reasons their idea wouldn’t work? Talk about backpedaling and defending one’s shortcomings, huh?
Or feeling you hit some sort of brick wall in your business? Your creativity went missing in action, your client base evaporated, you were bored, or you contemplated closing your company and getting a j-o-b.
Then a pandemic from out of nowhere. The world closed for months. You at least needed to eat, costing you Money, or homeschooled your children while keeping your business running and your family as sane as possible.
You are far from alone if you think very few ever felt things working out differently than they envisioned, to greater or lesser extents, with larger or smaller consequences. In the moment, emotions often run high and wide. Disappointment, fear, panic, and annoyance are a few. You might also view it as confirmation –
“See, I knew this wouldn’t work!”
Here’s paths that could get you out of that. Acknowledge how you feel. Give yourself a defined time to wallow in those real feelings. Once wallow time is up, consider ways to turn the ship’s course. You CAN take action once you decide to. Here are possible approaches:
Assess why earlier ideas fizzled. Causes can include requiring more idea promotion, more market research, choosing a different market, calendar conflicts, pricing, or other things to test one at a time to create different, better results.
Ask a trusted friend, colleague, or other advisor for ideas. This is most helpful when they are candid and caring with feedback, understand your strengths, and you are open to considering ideas you receive, knowing you do not have to implement any.
Pose a question to an AI program requesting potential solutions for your quandary. You may be happily surprised by ideas neither you or those humans you asked offered, even if one or more ideas provides only a seed of something you can enthusiastically expand.
Take a walk, run, or shower. It’s fascinating how many great ideas surface “out of nowhere” in your human mind when taking a walk, run, shower, or other pleasing distraction while your body is in motion.
Be hyper aware of everything you see, hear, or do for an hour or a day. You are likely to be both amazed and inspired by what you notice of form, function, metaphors, little aspects, big models, easy modifications, combining disparate entities that make something new, truly endless possibilities.
Whether you take the original idea you had behind the barn and shoot it, or you test small, medium, and large modifications, your mood will probably shift. Who knows WHAT you’ll come up with now?!
Let’s explore together how we can best serve you so you can better serve.
