A team of engineers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, has developed a blade-coated perovskite/silicon solar cell that achieves a remarkable 31.2% efficiency. Their design incorporates 2D perovskite layers on the bottom of the cell and uses scalable, ink-based fabrication methods to improve both efficiency and stability. By employing blade coating instead of spin coating, they created a 3D layer of perovskite in an inverted p-i-n configuration, which minimized energy mismatches and performance loss. The cell maintains 80% of its peak efficiency after 1,700 hours of normal sunshine exposure, highlighting its potential for stable, durable, and scalable solar cell production.
