10 Grueling Jobs That Made People Question Their Life Choices

It’s a shame that jobs are necessary to make Money in today’s society because not all occupations are created equal. Recently, men and women met in an online discussion to reveal the worst jobs they ever had. From being a janitor at a theme park to being a United States Armed Forces member, you’ll be surprised what people have gone through just to earn a living.

1. Airport Lavatory Truck Operator

I’m kicking off this list with a doozy, and if you don’t know what an “airport lavatory truck operator” is, all you have to do is look at the job title for an explanation. Being in charge of draining airplane toilets is the worst occupation I’ve ever heard of. However, it must pay well because it’s an actual job! Go figure.

2. Theme Park Janitor

Although one would think working at a theme park would be exciting, someone has to do the dirty work. Unsurprisingly, working as a janitor at SeaWorld isn’t glamorous whatsoever. “I worked at SeaWorld, and my job was just to walk up and down segments of the park sweeping pathways, keeping trash cans empty, and cleaning restrooms,” reveals one man. “It was easily the worst job ever, especially hearing the same announcements and music every day.”

3. Pizza Cook

Being in charge of making pizza sounds like every food lover’s dream! Unfortunately, holding the position of pizza cook means you’re most likely in a high-Stress, fast-paced environment where your love for pizza pales compared to the restaurant’s need to pump out as many delicious pies as possible. To make matters worse, countless people confess they accidentally burned themselves on the oven too many times to count.

4. Best Buy Employee

While Best Buy is known for being America’s go-to electronics and appliance store, it seemingly comes at a cost. Many people regard their tenure at the retailer as the worst experience of their lives. “Working at Best Buy sucked,” confesses one woman. “It was great at first and had a ‘family company’ feel. I loved it. But the city I worked in has some of the most self-entitled and rudest customers ever. And then the CEO retired, and the whole company went down the drain.”

5. Restaurant Manager

I served as the general manager of a popular San Diego restaurant for two years in the early 2020s, and I can’t explain how much of a drain it was on my Mental Health! As it turns out, I’m not alone; many others cite their restaurant management tenure as one of the most unfulfilling times in their lives. I don’t miss dealing with staffing issues, drunk customers, and kegs that routinely need changing.

6. Local Government Worker

Countless people confess their drab occupation working for the local government was boring. Imagine that! “It was like the show Parks and Rec except without any funny parts or interesting people,” explains one man. “It was the most mundane and boring job I’ve ever had.” I must give him credit for convincing himself his job would resemble a television show.

7. United States Navy

Surprisingly, some men and women regret the time they spent serving the United States. I can understand it; some people are just not meant to serve in the armed forces. However, one man puts it all into perspective: “In the eyes of the U.S. Navy, you are property, not a person,” reports one former Marine.

8. Hospital Security

Being a Security guard for a hospital sounds interesting, but the reality is that these people are as low on the totem pole as it gets. “It involved long hours, awkward shift patterns, and a completely knackered sleeping pattern,” admits one man. “The pay was utter garbage too. We were some of the lowest-paid staff in the building. Even the cleaners got paid enhancements for nights and weekends, but not us.”

9. Restaurant Dishwasher

Although I’ve worked with many dishwashers, I’ve never been one myself. However, that doesn’t stop me from proclaiming that dishwashers are the lifeblood of the restaurant industry. Without them, there would be no diners, restaurants, and bars. Unfortunately, the job is about as unglamorous as it gets, and the pay is terrible. Many people admit their first dishwashing job made them miserable.

10. FedEx Truck Packer

Count me in as one of the many people who thought their time working as a FedEx truck packer made me completely reassess their lives! The job was terrible; long hours, awful coworkers, and tedious work. A well-programmed robot is better suited to pack trucks than humans are. It remains the only job I ever walked out on.
