January 28, 2024: Civil Rights Advocate and Author, Jake Sloan, “Standing Tall” & Dr. Mara on Finding Passion After Loss
Missed the program? It was GREAT! And you can hear it all right here!
And you can ALSO listen on Apple podcasts right HERE!
We were joined by Jake Sloan, who spent most of his adult life working as a civil rights advocate and labor-management consultant. Jake discussed his new book, Standing Tall: Willie Long vs. U.S. Government at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. This book is about Jake’s experience as one of the “Original 21ers,” a group of young African- American workers who challenged the largest West Coast U.S. naval base to provide equal opportunities and wages… and they won, influencing the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits Employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
Find out more about Jake’s book and purchase it HERE on Bookshop.org, Amazon.com, or ArcadiaPublishing.com.
You can also contact Jake Sloan for more information via e-mail: JakeSloan@aol.com or by phone: 510-385-1242.
And Dr. Mara discussed more on finding passion and purpose after the loss of your person as a caregiver. You can also read Dr. Mara’s blog about the topic here: On Passion and Purpose After Loss of the Person For Whom We Advocated.
