What to buy and not buy in September
August 24th, 2023

Unfortunately, September marks the end of summer, which is so sad. Many people, like me, aren’t fans of winter. However, in relation to sales, September is a good time to shop for deals, the Labor Day sales being one reason. Here are recommendations on the September sales from DealNews.com: Summer clothing Deep discounts are expected at many retailers as they want to make room for new fall items. Look for sales up to 80 percent off. Major appliances Labor Day is one of the last sales times of the year when you can reliably expect savings on major appliances. The savings typically range from... Continue Reading

I Miss You, James Corden, I Do &Raquo; 6A00E550081576883402B68536Ce6F200D 320Wi

Photo: Andy Thornley Since I’m usually up late at night, I’ve come to love Stephen Colbert … and James Corden. Corden and his “The Late Late Show” team made me laugh. I truly thought Corden was funny. He was enthusiastic and upbeat, even during the pandemic. I looked forward to his show, as well as Colbert’s, to lighten up my life. I loved his “Carpool Karaoke,” the dates he arranged for staff members with audience members, and the program with Paul McCartney where they toured and sang in famous Beatles spots in London. Not my favorites were his “Dogs in Sunglasses,” “Spill... Continue Reading

Academy Award Nominations Movies Shown In 2022 Focus On Trauma And Violence, With The Return Of Sexism &Raquo; 6A00E550081576883402B7519A3Dba200C 320Wi

Movies continue to be one of the most popular past times in the United States. Joseph Campbell, American author and teacher, called them the great American dream machine. However, in my opinion, movies fall short because they focus so much on violence. For many years, I’ve written about how violence in the media is harmful to children. Despite this finding, movie makers continue to produce violent movies, and, the violence gets worse every year. In this list of the Oscar contenders, my picks are shown in bold. At the end of the article, you’ll find my recommendations listed, along with those... Continue Reading

Shady Comcast Salesman Lies To Try To Get Me Into A Yearly Contract &Raquo; 6A00E550081576883402B751700163200B 320Wi

A friend of mine recently received a $300 gift card under Comcast’s reward program. She thought she got it because she’s been a long-time customer. Since I’m a long-time Comcast customer, too, I thought it would be great to get $300 to spend, too. I went to the Comcast website and signed up for its rewards program. I saw a few program rewards that didn’t interest me, so I tried to communicate with the bot through the chat function. It didn’t work. I didn’t get any information about money rewards. So, then I did what I dread: I called Comcast. As I’ve written about many times, Comcast... Continue Reading

What’s Up with Medicare Advantage Ads?
January 19th, 2023

Starting months before my 65th birthday, my mailbox has been swamped with advertisements for Medicare Advantage insurance plans. The ads are still coming in. And then there are the television commercials with promises of Advantage plan benefits that original Medicare doesn’t cover – vision, dental and hearing services, rides to doctors’ appointments, zero premiums. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? The advertising blitz surely has contributed to the doubling in Advantage plan enrollment since 2013, to 28 million last year. The plans are overtaking Medigap plans, which the nonprofit Commonwealth... Continue Reading
