What Inside You Must Die Before the New Year Can Begin

  1. What Inside You Must Die Before the New Year Can Begin Deborah Lukovich, PhD 9:23

As the new year approaches, many of us rush to set goals, make plans, and envision what’s next. But real transformation doesn’t begin with striving—it begins with release.

In this episode, What Must Die Before the New Year Can Begin, I explore the often-overlooked truth that something within us must end before something new can emerge. We can’t become the person who has achieved our goals without allowing an old version of ourselves to fall away.

I share a deeply personal story from ten years ago—listening to Amy Grant’s Mary’s Song and experiencing a soul-shifting moment that taught me to trust what was happening inside me. I also reflect on a recent Christmas night of illness, where leaning into physical pain felt like a sacred shedding, much like a snake releasing its skin.

This episode is an invitation to pause, listen inward, and recognize the difference between trusting the process and knowing it. Before you plan the year, ask yourself: what must be released so the new can truly begin?

Enjoy!
