Art Garner is an award-winning author and finalist for the prestigious PEN/ESPN award for literary sports writing for his bestselling book, Black Noon, The Year They Stopped the Indy 500. For over 40 years he worked for Ford, Toyota, Lexus, and Honda, before retiring in 2014 to finish that first book. That book is about the tragic 1964 race that was stopped by a fiery accident on the second lap resulting in the deaths of drivers Eddie Sachs and Dave MacDonald. He also co-wrote a book titled Indy 500 Memories and another, Hood to Coast Memories, about the relay running race from Mt. Hood to the coast of Oregon. Art is the author of the new biography, A.J. Foyt, Survivor, Champion, Legend, that has just been released by Octane Press. He’s been working on the Foyt bio for the past five years and this is just volume one, which covers A.J.’s career through 1977. Volume Two is expected in May of 2026.
