Before I Walk In, I Do This One Thing

(Nope, it’s not read the room like a storm tracker, although yes, I do feel the energy when I walk in.)

The other day, I was talking to a friend who was bouncing from one thing to the next like her to-do list was chasing her.

I gently suggested she take a break.

Her reply? “I can’t.”

Been there. Said that.

I can’t. I don’t have time. Too much to do. The toddler’s loose, the glitter’s missing, the smoke detector just started beeping again, and I’ve got three back-to-back Zoom calls.

Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing—most of us are sprinting through life on autopilot with zero space to breathe, let alone pause long enough to hear ourselves think.

So, back in my concierge days (when everything was go-go-go), I tried something that felt kind of radical at the time.

I paused. Just for a second.

That might not sound like much, but it was a whole mindset shift for me at the time and transformed how I moved through the world… with a little more grace, and a whole lot more intention.

Before I walk into a room, a meeting, my office, or my house, I will often pause.

Just outside the door, I take a beat.

A deep breath. Maybe two.

Depending on the moment, I’ll give myself a 10-second pep talk or a quiet reminder of why I’m there. Always positive. Always loving.

Sometimes I’ll ask the angels and the Universe to walk in with me.

Actually, just yesterday Paula, who is an angel messenger, suggested that I let the angels go in first.

Honestly? Great idea.

It’s a mini reset. A micro-moment that belongs to no one else but me.

No fancy words. No Meditation. No ceremony.

Just me, the doorknob, and a breath that says, “You got this.”

That tiny pause?

It’s magic.

It gives me just enough space to drop whatever energetic baggage I was about to drag in with me.

And you know what? I show up a little more present.

A little more me.

So next time you’re about to walk into whatever’s next try it.

Pause.

Reset.

Then walk in with presence, not pressure. With a breath and a little grace. And a steady heart that doesn’t need to prove a thing.
