Talethread Review: The Affordable Way to Get Custom-Fit Style

It’s no secret that I miss the brand, eShakti. So imagine my surprise when a new and similar company reached out to me. The company is called Talethread, and here’s my review.

Quote of the day: “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

You know that I believe that alterations and fit can be the secret sauce in your outfit. And for years, that was one reason why I was so gaga about eShakti (and why I included them in an article about when our favorite brands go out of business).

The 3 factors that made eShakti so fabulous for me were
1-customization of sleeve length, hem length, and sometimes even collar shape, all with just a click of a button.
2-the ability to customize your item with YOUR measurements. Sure, it was an extra charge, but much less than normal alterations.
3-eShakti had such fun and whimsical prints and beautiful fabrics that I had the hardest time choosing what I wanted.

While the new company isn’t exactly the same, I’m still excited to share this Talethread review with you today because…well, you’ll see.

Details for the TaleThread Review:

-I did receive my 2 clothing items for free, so I could authentically promote the company.
-If you order through my link or use my discount, I should get a small commission.
-Use code JODIE, for 10% off.

Another site I have explored for customized clothing is Sumissura. I tried out a dress (funny, I also chose a purple one) and then pants and a top.

The Magic of Custom (Without the Custom Price Tag)

If you remember the old eShakti days, you already understand the appeal. Talethread works in a very similar way.

With Talethread, you’re not stuck taking a design “as is.” Instead, you get options.

  • Want shorter sleeves? Done.
  • Prefer a different neckline? You got it.
  • Need the hemline adjusted? Absolutely.

And the best part? You can input your own measurements so the piece is made for your body, not some standardized size chart that may or may not work for you.

In reality, this is where I think fashion should be heading. Because by now we realize that standardized sizes are anything but standard, as well as the fact that our bodies are unique.

Insider detail: Each item can be customized differently. When you are looking at the garments, concentrate more on the silhouette and material, because most other details can be changed.

The biggest advantage of this company is it is SO budget-oriented. You could easily buy a dress at Macy’s that costs more, and then you need to have it altered.
Plus, the sizing is very inclusive…they have XS to 5X.

I hope you join my email Family. It’s the place where I share things even before creating on my blog. It’s also my space for fun and positive content. In addition, you also get my free eBook when you sign up, but that’s not the best part.
The best part is being part of my community, where we inspire and lift each other up.

My Two Pieces for this TaleThread Review

For this Talethread review, I decided on two items: a purple dress and a patterned blazer.
Here’s the lowdown on what I ordered.

BTW, dresses are the hardest to fit for most women because think about all of the fit points that are included…especially if you want sleeves. It’s the reason why there are SO many sleeveless dresses.
So if you have one of those bodies that the top and bottom seem like different sizes, this is the time to use the custom sizing option.

For custom size and/or custom style, a fee of $5 for dresses, and $7 for blazers per item will apply…if you’ve ever had alterations done, then you know that this is a STEAL.

The Purple Dress

Let’s start with the dress. Since there weren’t many print options available at the time when I picked out my items, I figured I would choose an interesting design.

This piece immediately caught my eye because of the asymmetrical hemline and the white piping. It comes in 8 different colors, and I chose a color I don’t have much of in my closet….purple.
The other factor that I took into account was the material. This dress is mostly cotton, and it’s a detail that I’m trying to think about more and more.

Did I forget to mention pockets? Yes, it has pockets (although I’m sure you could message them to have them removed if you didn’t want them.)

In case you haven’t clicked over to the site for my dress, it comes in at $67 without the customization. I consider that quite a deal.

I paired it with my tall boots because it’s winter, but it will be easy to style with sneakers or Mary Janes when it warms up.

What I Could Change with this Dress

Sleeves

I chose the sleeve length not pictured, which is above the elbow.

Hem Length

I chose the hem length not pictured, which is knee length.

Insider details: For this style of dress, I could customize the sleeve length and the hem length, but not the neck style. Each dress is different and gives you different options.

The Blazer

I’m a sucker for blazers and jackets. Yes, even here in Arizona, I Love them and try to wear them often.

At first glance, this blazer has a classic silhouette. But I chose it because of the interesting print as well as the fact that it’s 100% cotton. Very lightweight…very wearable even here in Arizona.

I styled it over a blue tee and silver pants to keep the look fresh.

Insider detail: For this blazer, the only changeability was to make it longer. I chose the regular length.

The cost of this blazer is $78 without customization.

Blazers can be tricky, especially if you have narrow shoulders, a fuller bust, or just don’t fit into “standard proportions.” This is another place where customization can make all the difference.

What You Need to Know

One of my favorite sayings is that there is a pro and a con to everything. And this Talethread review proves it.

Talethread is a new company, and with that comes a few things to keep in mind.

1. Slower Turnaround Time

This is not fast fashion.

Your item is being made in India based on your preferences (and possibly your measurements), so yes, it takes longer.

I believe this is a fair trade-off for getting something that actually fits you.

Insider tip: Yes, there is a shipping charge of $8, but I do think this is reasonable. The website says returns are available within 14 days. They provide a prepaid shipping label, so it sounds like they are free.

2. Limited Selection (For Now)

Right now, the material and silhouette selection isn’t huge, especially compared to what eShakti offered at its peak.

There are more dresses than anything else, which actually makes sense. Dresses are where customization really shines because of all those fit points we talked about.

They have a tab for tops, but there are only what I would call vests shown. And there are no pants available right now.

I expect this will grow over time, but for now, it’s a bit more curated.

3. Based in India

Talethread is based in India, which contributes to both the unique designs and the longer shipping time.

But it also explains how they can offer customization at a fraction of what you’d normally pay for custom clothing.

Final Thoughts: Is Talethread Worth It?

Let me give you the company’s motto: Most clothes today are designed to be seen. Very few are designed to be understood.

So I’ll tackle the elephant in the room with this Talethread review…

Is it worth trying?

If you:

  • Struggle with fit
  • Love unique pieces
  • Appreciate having options
  • Don’t mind waiting a bit longer
  • Secondhand shopping isn’t your thing

Then yes, I absolutely think Talethread is worth giving a go. My first thought was to tell you to wait until they have more of a selection; however, they may not stay in business that way.

Support

If you have some event coming up this spring or summer, I bet you already know about it, so how about getting a custom dress or even a skirt for it?

Personally, I hope the site grows to have the variety of fabulous prints and silhouettes that eShakti had, but until that time, I hope we can help support them.

Again, my code, Jodie, gives you 10% off the TaleThread site.
