For our Thrifty 6 International group, I came up with the idea of winter whites. I know some women still wonder if white is a winter color. And I’m a firm believer that it can be.

Quote of the day: “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.” James Clear

Considering I still hear women discuss if you can wear white before Memorial Day, I thought it was a great question to ask if white is a winter color.

Luckily during this modern time of Fashion and style, any color can be styled for any season. This means that the answer to is white a winter color is Y.E.S.

However, if you are still antsy about wearing it head to toe, my crew came up with options so you can start off easy.

Insider tip: When we talk about whether white is a winter color, remember that you can include ivory which is a toned down version of bright white.

Heck, you also get ideas from my Thrifty 6 gal group below so you will have a ton of options.

This is not the first time we have discussed wearing white in the colder months, so you have a bunch of styled outfits if you need more to see.

Is White A Winter Color

Charlotte: Wearing a Winter White Jacket

My mom thrifted this jacket in the last year and it works wonderfully for fall, winter, or spring here in Arizona.

If you like to keep the color scheme muted for winter, then pairing it with darker pants is the way to go.
I happen to like how Charlotte included pops of yellow with her sweater, earrings, and purse.

BTW, did you check out where my mother bought her hat? It goes to show that there are no stores that are off-limits for finding stylish items.

Jodie: Styling a Winter White Skirt For Winter

It’s the material more than the color that makes me think of a season. That’s why I bought this knit ivory skirt when Thrifting last year. I love that it has stretch and is asymmetrical.

Insider tip: Especially when Thrifting white or light-colored items, I scrutinize them for any stains. If there are stains but you still love it, many times you can dye the piece.

After I wore this skirt and washed it, the waistband elastic gave out. Luckily, I could replace it for an easy fix, and it was ready to wear again.

The sweater is from Your Revolving Closet which is a rental clothing service. As one of my readers, you can get a 30-day free trial which I hope you take advantage of sometime during the 2024 year.
For me living in Arizona, sweaters are a wonderful option to “rent” because our summers are too hot to think about these items.

Looking for more info about this rental service? Then you should check out my article where I give all of the details as well as the pros and cons.

Lesley: Is White a Winter Color as Part of a Plaid?

Lesley wore her black and white plaid skirt to showcase that white can be a winter color. Having white as part of the print is an easy way to dip your toe into any Fashion idea that you aren’t sure about.

Insider tip: If you are looking for a skirt very similar to this one, I saw one on Amazon.

Instead of concentrating on the white for the look, Lesley paired the skirt with bright pink and black so it feels more wintery.

Winter Whites with the Thrifty 6

Proven Ways To Justify: Is White A Winter Color? &Raquo; T6 Winter Whites

With the Fashion and textile industry being a major contributor to landfills and other environmental pollution, we decided to make it the mission of this little group to focus on second-hand items. Every month we will choose a theme and share our styles with you to hopefully inspire you to shop more preloved and less fast Fashion.

Insider tip: If there aren’t many wonderful secondhand shops near you, then I included a list of online shops that I love at the end of this post.

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

“I found this white denim jumpsuit by Zara in my local thrift shop for $1. The zipper is broken and I find jumpsuits too tedious to wear but I bought it because it is going into a denim rag project. But before I cut it up, I figured I could make it work for this thrifty winter white theme even with its broken zipper (which I camouflaged with an ivory scarf tied onto my belt). Then I added a preloved motorcycle jacket in ivory, my white cowgirl boots, gray and silver accessories, and my new purple bag for a splash of bright color.”

“I have a white T-shirt and a white blouse and that’s all white I have in my closet. So I had to look for something on Vinted. And I had to do it quickly because delivery can take a while. Then there is washing, ironing, etc. I had seen a very nice white skirt on the Zara site, but yes, it must be second-hand. So I found this substitute. And when I got it it was covered in stains… As good as new, they say… Fortunately I don’t often have bad experiences with Vinted and the stains have all come out. With the addition of half a bottle of Shout!”

“I very rarely wear white, so when Jodie chose that as this month’s theme I had to wrack my brains for any pre-loved white clothes and accessories. As luck would have it, a few months ago I bought this shirt from a charity shop for £1! It was the price that swayed me because I would usually pass by anything white, but I figured if it didn’t fit I could re-donate it. I’m not all that keen on it as it’s a bit small but it has some stretch, which helps. I’ve teamed it with green trousers because I like that colour combination. The bag is pre-loved, from eBay, and while looking for a jacket I found this Dept 19 zebra print coat that I also bought on eBay years ago…I’d forgotten all about it! I’m glad I’ve rediscovered it though!”

“Winter White is February’s T6 theme, a refreshing segway into springtime.
I noticed a group of emerging Snowdrops today, a true sign that Winter’s loosening its icy grip.
Such a joy to wear this beautiful pale colour, punctuated with botanical print…
…styled alongside my latest vintage handbag, a 1960’s original with an oriental twist.”

Grace of Graceful Rags

“I rarely wear white, let alone thrifted white, so this cute top that my mom handed down to me is one of the only secondhand white things I own! It’s not a winter white by any means, but lucky for me I already had my trip planned to Puerto Rico for my great aunt’s 100th birthday, so I was able to wear it in the sunny 80 degree weather while there.”

I feel I’m here to help move beyond the Fashion rules of yesterday and evolve. Style and clothes are made to give you joy. Not cause us stress because we are worried about what others think.

My hope is that you get ideas and inspiration from Charlotte, Lesley, and myself. It’s not about copying what we wear, but about using what you already have and updating items along the way.
Most of all it’s getting us to think differently and dare I say, have fun.
