Inspired Style: 10 New Outfits from Street Style Magic

I think we have such an advantage in this day and age with social media and blogs. You get to discover so many different types of fashion and style that can become an inspired style. I’ve shared many ideas in the past about how it’s not about copying an outfit piece-for-piece, it’s about noticing the magic in the details and translating that into something that works for you.

Quote of the day: “Do not confuse motion and progress. A rocking horse keeps moving but does not make any progress.” Alfred A. Montapert

For my New 60 Challenge, it was only fitting I include a category about creating 10 new outfits. No surprise that this was so much fun for me. Heck, I even created 11 of them because I kept finding more inspired style ideas.

My thought was to create these inspired style outfits only from people I didn’t know and had been photographed as “street style” at the big fashion shows.
However, I had a request for a TV show persona, and I included that one too.

What “Inspired Style” Really Means

Inspired style isn’t duplication, it’s interpretation.

Sometimes it’s:

  • A color combo you wouldn’t normally try
  • A silhouette that shifts how your outfit feels
  • Layering details that make everything more interesting

In the photos I share, you’ll see the originals paired with my versions. And I’ll tell you right now, mine aren’t exact replicas.

I used what I had and made it work for me. That’s the whole goal.

And because there are so many inspired style looks, I won’t go into too many details except for how I was inspired.

1. Plaid & Lace

When I saw this inspired style photo (and that’s all that was shown of the photo…just the bottom half), it made me think of my plaid skirt that my mother had redesigned from a kilt.

I’ve worn it before, styled with a sweatshirt.

This time, I layered my tulle skirt under it to replicate the lace part of the skirt.

2. Camo & Jacket

I loved the vibe of this camo pants outfit paired with an athletic jacket. It’s more the vibe of the masculine camo with the athletic jacket and heels that won me over.

My pants have camo in them, but are a mix of materials. Then I wore this sweatshirt jacket and my kitten heels.

3. Short Suit with Tights

There was just something about this look that caught my attention. I recreated it with camo shorts, a striped jacket, and red tights.
I even added my wrist warmers to keep things fun.

4. Ruffle Belt Skirt

The belt skirt worn by this woman reminded me of the one I was gifted years ago. I don’t wear it often, but it’s a very cool item.
Granted, the inspired style woman’s item is much longer in the back and quite different, but I Love how I recreated the same silhouette.

5. Sheer Ivory

The sheer items, the dots, and everything seemed out of my box, but I decided to try it anyway.
I wore my white tulle skirt (again) with my mini tulle over it (it’s a kid’s tulle skirt that I’ve worn as a top before).

I used my lace bralette to layer over a sheer top (remember the bralette and how I wore it 3 unique ways?). The jacket was really unneeded, but it made me feel more covered.

6-Fringe Skirt

When I saw these fringe skirts, they reminded me of this fringe dress I bought at Just Be Youtiful. I didn’t copy the leather jacket and black boots from the inspired style photo, but I love how I made it more colorful.

You can see this purple dress (one that my mom made for me years ago) worn by itself.

7-Print Mix Galore

One of my friends sent me a DM showing Sarah Adams (she’s on IG as @Saramaijewels), and I knew it would be a fun, inspired style photo to recreate.

My strapless top is a skirt that I’ve showcased how to wear 5 ways (and only 1 way is as a skirt).

8-Black Fringe & Denim

I loved the idea of wearing your denim jacket as a top and belt stacking (we did that once). And I had a fringe skirt that I DIYed myself. It’s easy, and of course, I wrote a blog post about how to do it.

This outfit was very close to a copy, but it was still fun.

9-Color & Texture

This was the TV personality suggested by a friend, and I can’t even remember who it is (even ChatGPT doesn’t know). But the suggestion came with the realization about how the TV personality loved colorful clothing and fun pieces.

So I threw together a textural outfit in pink and even added denim to the mix.

The inspired style photo only included the top half of her look, so I took license with the bottom half.

10-Winterize Your White Dress

You know that I’m all about wearing our pieces in every season if possible, so I loved seeing how this white dress was styled for winter.
I made my look more colorful, and I don’t have the cool background, but it’s still one of my favorites.

11-Stripes and Print

I just had to include another inspired style recreation when I saw this outfit. The inspired-style sweater reminded me of the one I hand-knit recently, and I love how she paired it with a longer print top underneath.

Of course, I had to add in my favorite colorful booties, and I didn’t need the scarf, but I’m over the moon with the results.

Final Thoughts: Make It Yours

This inspired style series reminded me that fashion is meant to be playful, experimental, and personal.

I believe that we have the experience. And we have the closet. Now we just need the curiosity.

So the next time you see an outfit you love:

  • Don’t dismiss it as “not for you.”
  • Don’t assume you need to buy something new.

Instead, I think you should ask yourself: “How can I interpret this in my own way?”

And see how you can create your own magic.

Final Thoughts

Do you save outfit inspiration and actually recreate it? I think it’s a smart trick to change up the outfits you always wear.

I’ve shared in previous articles ways to break down an inspired style outfit because it doesn’t need to be an exact copy. If you need some ideas, check out these older posts:

–Recreating outfits

The important thing to remember is that they may not all be looks that you love or consider successes. But our failures can be learning moments too (as I’ve discussed in the past).

I think you should start your own mini challenge to try this idea. Whether you find 10 different outfits on Pinterest that are different than your normal or take a couple of my inspired style outfits.
Because 10 new outfits from your closet are more doable than you think.
