Thanksgiving is the moment for family and friends to celebrate together with gratitude for all the blessings received. When you’re together celebrating, food is there! If you are hosting a Thanksgiving party this year with kids, these tips will help keep them entertained while preparing the food.

Organize a Scavenger Hunt

No matter the weather, organize a scavenger hunt. If the weather is good, send them outside for a hunt. List some scavenger hunt items and offer a reward for someone who finds everything on the list first. Prizes can be chocolates, gift cards, or a dollar bill.

Coloring

This activity is both entertaining for kids and adults. Organize a coloring table with some Thanksgiving coloring pages to work on. Prepare some coloring materials such as crayons, coloring pencils, and markers so everyone can boost their creativity. Use these printable downloads especially created for Gigi Connection by artist Hollis Callas.

How about some Thanksgiving placemats to color? This will be a big hit at the coloring table as well. You can find them here.

Word Scramble

Word scramble is great for all ages. Before the party, list some words: pumpkin, turkey, thankful, or anything related to Thanksgiving. You can also use an online generator to come up with words.

Thankful Jar

Before the dinner, encourage everyone to write on a piece of paper what they are most thankful for this year and place it in the jar. After dinner, each person can select one from the jar and read it aloud.

Let Them Help You

Have your grandchildren help set the table, prepare some meals and help keep track of timers to ensure the food doesn’t burn. Depending on their age, they will be able to assist with most tasks. Enjoy the time together and the extra hands.
