Earth Day is a week from Saturday! Earth Day serves as a reminder of the responsibility we have to protect the planet for future generations. The Earth Day Theme for 2023 is ‘Invest in Our Planet’ and just as we invest in our grandchildren, we also believe, they are never too young to appreciate nature and care for their homes and neighborhoods by tending to the environment. Celebrating Earth Day together is a fun way to get outside with each other and make the world not only a happier but also a healthier place to live for all of us. Here are several fun activities you may want to try as you celebrate Earth Day with your grandchild:

Plant wildflowers together! Kids of all ages can get involved. I purchased Seeds of Tomorrow Seed Packets from American Meadows, follow this link to purchase. The packets have an inspirational quote on the front side which makes them perfect for handing out and gifting to friends or neighbors. They also sell a Bee Happy Seed packet which is another great option.

Create a bird feeder together! I love how simple and fun this particular bird feeder is to make. Use this as a way to avoid shopping/purchasing anything new (especially plastics) and use what you already have on hand in new ways. Get creative!

Plant a tree! National Arbor Day, in the United States, is celebrated on the last Friday in April. However, Earth Day is the perfect day to consider planting a small tree together. It’s a great way we can teach the importance of caring for and maintaining nature. I’m determined to begin this year by planting one small tree for each of our five grandchildren. This is something we can do one-on-one with each of them and it’ll also be fun watching their tree as it grows over the years.

Play a game of Nature Bingo! This is a fun activity with a free printable that will get everyone outdoors and exploring their surroundings together.

As long as we all are striving to do our best to reduce our carbon footprint and always mindful of leaving every trail cleaner than it was when we arrived, we’ll be Moving in the right direction. If you missed Gigi Susie’s blog Bee Confident, Grandmas! , be sure to take a peek at it! She shares how she is pationate about making a difference in not only the lives of her grandchildren, but the life and earth she leaves behind for them.

Whether you enjoy a picnic outside together, read a few Earth Day books or sit quietly on a park bench together soaking in the warm sun, treasure your day!
