The U.S. Supreme Court, with its right-wing majority, on April 29 gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Now GOP-controlled state legislatures are gleefully doing Trump’s bidding, re-gerrymandering their election maps to steal the upcoming Congressional elections and preserve their political power.
It’s an act of desperation.
Why? Because Republicans know they will lose control of Congress, because of what Trump has done to our country. And what will happen if Democrats take over both the House and Senate?
Trump will be impeached for the third time, and he knows it. But this time, if the Senate turns blue, he could be convicted and tossed out of office.
I want you to listen to this brilliant, incisive 12-minute video by Grace Cowan, a South Carolina political analyst and co-host of the Frogmore Stew podcast. In those brief 12 minutes, Grace reminds us why and how the Voting Rights Act was enacted, what was supposed to happen since then — but didn’t — and what Democrats need to do now.
Whining and carrying on about how horrible the Republicans are isn’t enough, she says. They can’t just faint about the horribleness of it all and bury themselves on a comfy couch. They need to act. Decisively.
Take a listen to Grace’s commentary on her Frogmore Stew podcast. It’s well worth 12 minutes of your time.
By the way, Grace was our guest on on a recent episode of our monthly Dixie Dems program, during which we discussed what Democrats must do to win “unwinnable” districts in red states across the South. If you missed it, check it out now.
