Payments as a Service (PaaS): How NPSONE Offers an Integrated, Flexible Alternative to Stripe

AI Overview

Summary

Payments as a Service (PaaS) represents the modern shift toward integrating all payment functions—from ACH to credit card processing and invoicing—into a single platform via API. Long before it became a popular concept, Nationwide Payment Systems (NPS) pioneered this model with its NPSONE Gateway. This approach allows merchants, developers, and ISVs to embed secure, transparent payment capabilities directly into their software (SaaS, CRM, booking apps). The article emphasizes that NPS provides a robust, flexible alternative to larger players like Stripe, offering crucial benefits like Interchange-Plus pricing, real human support, and specialized tools for high-risk, B2B, and multi-location businesses.

Payments as a Service: How Nationwide Payment Systems Has Been Doing It for Years

When people hear “Payments as a Service” (PaaS), they often think of Stripe or Adyen. But long before it was a Silicon Valley buzzword, Nationwide Payment Systems (NPS) was delivering the same power—helping merchants, SaaS developers, and ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) integrate credit card, ACH, invoicing, and gateway services through flexible APIs.

What Is Payments as a Service (PaaS)?

Payments as a Service is the modern way businesses manage processing. Instead of buying complex hardware or juggling multiple vendors, you connect to a single API or platform that handles everything—from customer onboarding to settlement.

Nationwide Payment Systems pioneered this model years ago, offering a comprehensive gateway (NPSONE) that supports a full range of modern solutions:

  • Credit card and ACH payments.

  • Recurring billing and subscriptions.

  • Smart invoicing and payment links.

  • QuickBooks two-way sync.

  • Custom APIs for SaaS and CRM platforms.

  • White-label options for software providers.

Whether you’re building your own fintech, a booking app, or a B2B invoicing platform, NPS gives you the essential tools and the people to power payments.

Stripe Isn’t the Only Game in Town

Yes, Stripe is popular, but that doesn’t make it the only—or best—option.

Nationwide Payment Systems offers API-driven processing with real human support, transparent pricing, and decades of expertise. We help you integrate payments the way you want—without inflated fees, arbitrary account shutdowns, or frustrating ticket-only support queues.

Our APIs and services include:

  • Tokenized payments for simplified PCI compliance.

  • Integrated ACH and eCheck solutions.

  • Payment-on-file services for recurring customers.

  • Branded checkout pages and hosted payment links.

  • Secure onboarding flows for software platforms.

When you work with NPS, you’re partnering with a trusted U.S.-based provider that has successfully powered merchants for over 20 years.

For Developers, Platforms, and ISVs

Developers appreciate our system because it’s both flexible and scalable.

You can embed payments directly into your software, enable your customers to process transactions, and grow a new revenue stream—all through our NPSONE API suite.

Key PaaS Use Cases:

  • SaaS billing automation and subscription management.

  • Marketplace payouts and vendor settlements.

  • B2B invoicing and ACH collection (high volume, low cost).

  • Retail, restaurant, and hospitality systems integration.

Why Businesses Choose Nationwide Payment Systems

Unlike the big, automated platforms, NPS gives you a critical combination of Technology and service:

  • Direct Access: Live human support 24/7.

  • Transparency: Interchange-Plus pricing (transparent and fair).

  • Control: Real control over your merchant data.

  • Flexibility: Flexible API integrations with no lock-in contracts.

  • Specialization: Support for high-risk, B2B, and multi-location businesses often rejected by aggregators.

We’ve built a true payments ecosystem, combining powerful software, open APIs, and human expertise to help businesses run better.

The Future Is Embedded—and We’re Already There

Embedded payments are unequivocally the future of commerce. Nationwide Payment Systems has been delivering this functionality for decades—connecting software and payments in ways that save time, reduce fees, and increase revenue. We call it business as usual.

Allen Co-Founded Nationwide Payment Systems Inc. in 2001, with the plan to sell credit card processing services and equipment to merchants in the South Florida area and provide concierge style service for each client. Quickly the company grew to 1000 plus clients and we were had clients all over the United States.
The entrepreneurial bug started early in Allen’s life as comes from a family of business owners and learn about business from early age behind the cash registers at his father’s clothing stores in Miami. Later going to Culinary School in Atlanta and being a Chef, then Executive Chef for Metro Hotels in Dallas, Texas running food and beverage operations in Hotels. In 1992 a move back to Florida and opening a restaurant, catering company and consulting group.
After gaining a couple of years of experience selling merchant services, Allen Co-Founded Nationwide Payment Systems with David Burney. Together the company started and quickly grew, products were added, processing banks and the company became laser focused on technology that would help merchants. Along with that came a focus on hard to place businesses that many banks did not want to work with.
