Becoming a Safe Man

  1. Becoming a Safe Man Bill Simpson 21:15

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m a good man. I provide. I don't hit or yell. So why does my partner still shut down around me?” this conversation goes straight to the uncomfortable answer: emotional safety is not the same as having good intentions.

In this episode, I’m closing out my series on becoming the man capable of a healthy relationship by unpacking what it means to be a safe man in relationship.  I talk about what emotional safety actually feels like from the other side, and how a man can be nonviolent and still be emotionally unsafe through defensiveness, control, interruption, or conflict avoidance.

I share a personal wake up call from couples Therapy that forced me to see myself more honestly, and a Coaching story about “CJ” and “Nina” where one pattern changed everything. Then I offer a clear path forward using practical relationship tools you can start using to create emotional safety in your current or future Relationships. Check out the Becoming a Safe Man, episode.

Bill Simpson Host of the Men on the Path to Love Podcast

Relationship Coach for Men, and Mind-Body Educator & Integrative Therapy Practitioner with over 20 years of experience in private and clinical practice. Before coaching, I spent over 30 years as a radio personality, including co-hosting a high-profile morning show in Philadelphia for over 10 years.

Seeking healthier ways to manage stress and live with greater intention, I immersed myself in personal and spiritual growth, opening a private practice in 2001. In 2015, I accepted a rare full-time clinical role at a major Philadelphia health center, where I've coached and supported hundreds of clients (80% women) and gained deep insight into what women want most in relationships—emotional presence, empathy, vulnerability, and trust. I've learned that is not the fault of men, it's just how we've been conditioned.

Having once struggled in relationships myself, including three divorces, I understand these challenges firsthand. After years of inner work, I've built a deeply fulfilling relationship with my wife. We've been together now for over 17 years and our marriage continues to thrive. Today, I am on a love mission to give men grace and to help them break old patterns/conditions, show up authentically, and create lasting, meaningful relationships. It's never too late for love!
