Why Storytelling Still Wins in a Noisy, AI-Fueled World

The internet is noisier than ever. AI-generated content is everywhere. But when someone shares a real and thoughtful story from experience, it can still cut through the noise. That’s what we talked about in this episode of The Venture Variety Show with Tony Stubblebine, CEO of Medium.

Tony’s seen the writing platform world evolve, from his early days at Odeo, where he helped to launch Twitter, to now leading Medium through a reinvention focused on substance over scale.

He and I got into why storytelling remains a superpower for entrepreneurs, how writing can help you punch above your weight, and how Medium is trying to bring back the internet’s original promise of providing a platform for real voices.

As Tony says:

“Writing gives you an opportunity to clarify your thoughts, to research something, and then to demonstrate that you’re really smart.”

It doesn’t require an audience or an ad budget, when done right, just honesty and a point of view.

Topics covered include:

🔶 Why writing is still the fastest way to stand out as a founder

🔶 How Medium differs from other platforms in the AI era

🔶 What “making amateur writing cool again” actually means

🔶 The risks of AI-driven summarization and shortform overload

🔶 Why a well-written blog post still carries more weight than a viral tweet

🔶 How to own your voice, find your niche, and write with impact—even if it’s only twice a year

“We’re not looking for attention-seeking. We’re looking for real, substantial takes… And you don’t have to be a full-time creator to be heard.”

Whether you’re an entrepreneur looking to elevate your voice, or a platform thinker wondering where all this content chaos is headed, this one’s worth a listen.
