Is strength training a key component to aging well?

For this episode, Dr. Gill talks with Troy Taylor, Senior Director of Performance Innovation at Tonal, to discuss the importance of strength training for aging well. Troy emphasizes the benefits of consistent, progressive overload in resistance training, noting that it can improve muscle mass, strength, and bone density at any age. He highlights that strength training can also enhance cognitive function and glucose homeostasis. Troy addresses common misconceptions, such as the danger of resistance training and the belief that it’s too late to start. He recommends starting with small, manageable exercises and gradually increasing intensity. Troy also discusses the role of proper nutrition, particularly protein, in supporting strength training goals.
