Genuine Reasons For Why I Use A Contour Pillow

For me, Sleep is one of the most enjoyable times of the day, yet when you have neck issues, it can be a struggle in futility.
Comfort is the key reason for why I use a contour pillow, and I thought I’d share some of the brands of pillows I’ve used as well as my journey with my troublesome neck.

Quote of the day: “The cost of your good habits is in the present. The cost of your bad habits is in the future.” James Clear

My neck issues probably stem from my gymnastic days. I can’t pinpoint an extreme fall or time that I really hurt it, but that was the theory from one of my chiropractors.

It didn’t help that my career involved sitting in a chair being twisted so that I could look in people’s mouths.

It’s been a L.O.N.G journey with my neck issues and that’s one of the reasons I use a contour pillow.

Since our health is our best investment, this is not the first time I have explored healthy thinking.

The Obvious Reason for Why I Use a Contour Pillow

Sutera Pillow

Two words: Neck support.

If you’ve ever been to a chiropractor, then you know that you want to straighten out your spine as much as possible while sleeping.

Especially when I was first struggling with my neck issues, I felt like I tried every pillow available.

And while I am a thrifty person, I consider my pillow an investment for my health. I will skimp on my sheets and comforter, but spending Money on my pillow is like spending more money on my comfortable walking shoes.

It’s a foundation for the rest of my body.

These are the contour pillows that we’ve had in our house over the past 5 years.

Insider tip: The Zamat HA infused pillowcase is an interesting detail. If you are a side sleeper, this could be beneficial for you, but I haven’t done a lot of research about it. Could this mean you don’t have to invest in your nightly serum and moisturizer? If so, then it could be worth the extra money.

Zamat is having a sale with the various codes until Sept. 30, 2024.

  • ZMQ2S15– 15% off sitewide for orders under $100
  • ZMQ2S16– 16% off order value over $100
  • ZMQ2S18– 18% off order value over $200

How Often Should You Change Out Your Pillow?

I’m sure this is very dependent on the quality of the pillow and what it is made of. The Sleep Foundation reported on this exact query and recommends changing out your pillow every 1-2 years, not just for comfort but also for allergens.

Considering you are using your pillow for 7-9 hours every day, it’s no wonder you should invest in a new one as often as that.

Insider tip: Who else hates to throw out “perfectly” good pillows? I have been known to cut down one of my old pillows to create a “Travel” size pillow that will fit in my suitcase.
There’s also no reason you can’t cut it up to make a couch pillow.

Other Options With My Neck Issues

  • Heated neck and shoulder relaxer. We have been using a spine aligner from the chiropractor until we found this heated one. Talk about a great pre-sleep routine that has felt amazing.
  • Physical Therapy. Yes, I’ve tried chiropractics for years on end, but I would rather find a way to depend on my actions to feel good. I believe that building up the muscles around my neck and shoulders will help support my neck. Just like physical therapy can help other body parts, I’ve been shocked that no one has suggested this before now.
  • Pain relief cream. When my neck is hurting, I’ve been using Kalaya on it at night, and Arnica on it during the day. I also take Arnica homeopathic pills if it’s really bad.
  • Ice pack. Our PT recommended this type of ice pack to get great coverage for the area. Ice is the best remedy to relieve inflammation. It’s not my favorite thing to use during the winter, but during the summer, I’m game.

Insider tip: Arnica cream is odor free which is why I use it during the day. But Kalaya has arnica AND menthol and eucalyptus in it for added relief at night.
