It’s summer’s end, and we are marking the occasion in all the traditional ways: grilling a burger, slicing a watermelon, and broadcasting a summer rerun. This is an oldie but a goodie.
Ashton Applewhite is among the foremost activists calling attention to ageism in our culture and its harmful effects on old (and young) people. She is the author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism. She is also a primary resource for the movement as co-creator of Old School Anti-Ageism Clearinghouse. In this interview, which was first broadcast August 28, 2021, she talks about how where ageism shows up and how we can address our own subconscious ageist attitudes. She also reacts to commonly heard phrases and answers, “Yo, Is This Ageist?”
