Our Ageless Style group of women came up with the prompt of styling spring dresses for this month’s collaboration. With that in mind, I decided to ask my crew to wear modest spring dresses and explain our definiton of such.
It’s always so interesting to hear different perspectives of what is modest and how our thinking can change over time.

The insider detail that you wouldn’t know by looking at our modest spring dresses outfits is that we were going thrift shopping after the photoshoot. And since our Goodwill does not have their fitting rooms open, we tailored our look to be able to shop easily.

I am a huge proponent that you can still look cute while shopping. And I think we prove that.

If you are looking for modest spring dresses, my favorite retailers are Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, and Walmart. I also found many budget-oriented options below in the widget.

Charlotte-Modest Spring Dresses for Woman over 80

Charlotte shared her checklist of modest spring dresses details with these facts

• Covers her knees
• Sleeves (although she prefers them longer)
• Shallow scoop neckline

As my mom has collected birthdays, her idea of modesty has certainly changed. While I would consider her style to have always been somewhat modest, the changing of our skin details has changed her dramatically.
And I understand how that happens. Unfortunately, we are brainwashed to think that we need to hide wrinkles, skin that isn’t as taut anymore as well as veins and scars.

Yet in all reality, these changes happen to each and every one of us if we are lucky to live into our golden years.
Considering this is an Ageless Style group article, I will add my two cents that taking baby steps to embrace the changes in our body is more freeing than worrying about covering it all up.

That’s not to say that modesty is bad. The only thing I consider sad is being embarrassed by our bodies.

The best thing about modest spring dresses is that you just need to add shoes and a sprinkling of accessories and you are good to go for most days.
My mom commented how she loves a print knit dress even more because it doesn’t wrinkle (or else you don’t notice the wrinkles as much).

The Extras

My mom originally wore a pair of multi-colored earrings, but I had her change them to this orange pair I had so they would stand out more.
Besides, they bookend the orange shoes so well.

I love how a yellow purse is the iconic summer bag and really pops the yellow color from the print dress.

Jodie-Colorful Modest Spring Dresses for Shopping

I was brought up dressing modestly, and have only gotten less so in my advanced years. Yet my first thought when I brought up the idea of modest spring dresses are these factors.

• Not too tight
• No boobs showing
• Easy to sit in meaning the skirt isn’t too short or tight

And it’s only since moving to Arizona that I consider the fabric content of a dress when I buy it. That doesn’t mean I don’t have polyester dresses in my closet, but I’m trying to stick to natural fibers as much as possible.

I’m sure we can all agree that most of the tiered dresses are the kind we think of as not so flattering. They don’t make our shape look as good as we think it should. But in all reality, is that the only reason to wear a dress?
Besides, we are probably the only ones that critique our clothing that minutely. Sometimes, in the heat of the summer, it’s advantageous to have dresses that are looser and hide the sweat dripping down our bodies.

Anyways, the tiered dresses are definitely still trending, so if you are looking for a dress to bop around in, I’d suggest one. You may like it more than you thought you would.

Insider tip: If you struggle with thinking that the tiers make you look bigger, opt for a print one instead because the tiers aren’t as noticeable then.

Details

This sling purse is actually a belt bag I attached a colorful guitar strap instead of the “belt” that came with it. I then hung it across my body.
I know many of you think it’s strange to wear your purse this way, but it’s not a ton different than how you wear a crossbody purse. The reason I like it is it seems to camouflage the girls better this way.

Insider tip: This is a great way to add variety to your purse without spending a ton of Money.

Lesley: Modest Spring Dresses yet Cool for Hot Weather

When I asked Lesley about what characteristics she considers for modest spring dresses, here are her 4 points.

• No cut-outs
• No deep necklines 
• Not a mini
• Not figure hugging

And in her words: “While I might have a couple of dresses that are more body-baring (strapless), this fell into the modest spring dresses prompt nicely.  I don’t have a problem baring arms and don’t consider that immodest. Since we were thrifting and I could slip skirt or pants on under the skirt portion & blouses or dresses on over it. (And just so you know, she did both of those things in Goodwill.)

I call this my ‘Old Lady’ dress because of the colors…’ When I am an old woman I shall wear red and purple ‘…so goes the poem.“

One of the reasons I like this style of dress is that it’s the perfect slip-on dress.
PLUS you can layer over the top half with a top to make the dress look like a skirt or the bottom half with a skirt to make the dress look like a top very easily.

Insider tip: I know most of us think of a dress as a dress. But I’ve proved how versatile they really can be especially when they are this shape. And no, the tricks are not only for someone size 2 as I discussed here.

Details

Lesley kept her accessories simple since we were off to shopping right after these photos. The sandals are great for being on your feet for hours, and this purse is her go-to small bag that she carries everywhere.

Insider tip: If Lesley has a bigger purse or tote, she just throws this small one in it and then can have a smaller purse in a pinch.
