Nearly 2 million YETI coolers and gear cases are being recalled due to magnet problems

Yeti Hopper M20 Soft Backpack Coolerin Charcoal ColorYETI is recalling about 1.9 million coolers and gear cases in the United States and 40,760 in Canada.

If the magnet-lined closures fail and the magnets fall out, serious injury or death can occur if they’re ingested. When two or more high-powered magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other, or to another metal object, and get stuck in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning, and death.

YETI has received 1,399 reports of the magnet-lined closures degrading or failing, including reports of missing or detached magnets. No magnet ingestions or injuries have been reported.

This recall is for four YETI products: the Hopper M30 soft cooler 1.0 and 2.0, Hopper M20 backpack cooler, and SideKick Dry gear case. The recalled coolers and gear cases were sold in a variety of colors with YETI displayed on the front.

The coolers and gear cases were sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods, ACE Hardware, Academy Sports + Outdoors, YETI, and other stores nationwide and online at www.yeti.com and www.amazon.com from March 2018 to January 2023. The cost ranged from about $50 to $350.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact YETI for a refund or replacement, the company and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advise. Visit www.yeti.com for instructions.
