Life Is All About How You Respond To Problems &Raquo;

So close yet so far 🤯 This week already had it’s weird challenges (including turning up to the wrong private members club for a business meeting) so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised this Sunday morning when another problem beset me. What happened? I woke up bright and early for a round of golf with 3 friends I hadn’t seen in ages. Modern life being modern life, we had booked it in a months before (something I was regretting when my alarm went off at 6am having only gone to bed a few hours before). Having showered, breakfasted and done all the other morning excitements, I headed... Continue Reading

Unfair, deceptive, and abusive practices are being used in many financial transactions, agency finds
July 28th, 2023

American companies are using unfair, deceptive, and abusive practices as they sells many consumer financial products, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said in a new report on what it found as it reviews business practices at financial institutions. For example, auto lenders have originated loan balances above the real value of the car being purchased and engaged in illegal collection practices while servicing these loans. The report covers findings from CFPB examinations completed from July 2022 to March 2023. “Today’s report furthers our efforts to highlight conduct that violates... Continue Reading

Top 10 Consumer Complaints For 2022 &Raquo; 6A00E550081576883402B7518208Bf200B 320Wi

It’s not surprising what last year’s top consumer complaint was. I’ve seen it many times as No. 1 on annual consumer complaint lists. It’s auto sales and repair. “Consumers rely on cars to get to work, school, doctors’ appointments and more,” said Erin Witte, director of consumer protection for the Consumer Federation of America. Complaints related to the sale and leasing of new and used automobiles – pricing, advertisements, and mechanical defects – as well as issues related to the repair of vehicles. It’s the seventh year in a row that auto sales, leases, and repairs are... Continue Reading

Watch Out For So Called ‘Full Vehicle’ Extended Warranty Protection &Raquo; 6A00E550081576883402B685301400200D 320Wi 1

When you take two consumer problems, telemarketing and extended warranties, and put them together, it can result in disaster. The Federal Trade Commission announced a settlement Friday in its case against American Vehicle Protection – who it charged last year with running a telemarketing extended auto warranty scheme that cheated people out of more than $6 million. “AVP misled consumers about who they were and what they were selling and called a large number of consumers who were on the FTC’s Do Not Call List,” said Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.... Continue Reading

Stop Using $13 Bicycle Helmets Sold At Walmart, The Cpsc Advises &Raquo; 6A00E550081576883402B7519Aa0E9200C 320Wi

In addition to recalling products, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issues warnings about hazardous products. A recent warning from the agency is to immediately stop using black TureClos bicycle helmets. The helmets don’t comply with federal safety standards, the CPSC said in a statement. The helmets can fail to protect riders if a crash occurs, posing a head injury risk. The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the helmets, cut the straps off, and dispose of the helmets immediately. The bicycle helmets were sold online at www.walmart.com from March 2022 through November 2022. The... Continue Reading

Every year, Consumer Reports, a research, testing, and advocacy organization, conducts a battery of tests on the vehicles it evaluates, including braking, handling, comfort, convenience, safety, and fuel economy. Eight of the 10 top picks are new to the list this year – the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Toyota Corolla Cross, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Ford Maverick Hybrid, Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, Lexus NX350h, Nissan Leaf, and Tesla Model 3. The two remaining vehicles were top picks last year. They’re... Continue Reading

Safety Of E-Bikes For Kids Comes Under Scrutiny &Raquo; 6A00E550081576883402B75195B62F200C 320Wi

Until this week, I hadn’t heard about a potential safety problem with electric bicycles or “e-bikes.” An article in The Washington Post, “A Child’s Death Prompts Questions About Brake Safety on E-bikes,” caught my attention. A lawsuit filed against Rad Power Bikes by the parents of a 12-year-old girl who was killed in 2021 in an e-bike accident claims the company’s bikes are “inappropriately” marketed to children and contain “multiple design defects,” according to The Post article. Molly Steinapir was riding behind her friend when the two girls were going down a steep hill... Continue Reading
