Remembering a past gem from 1993 – "Don’t Tear Me Up" by Mick Jagger (solo)

While reading Mike Campbell’s (lead guitarist for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) memoir, "Heartbreaker", he talked about working with producer Rick Rubin on the Petty album, "Wildflowers". In one chapter, Campbell notes that Rubin had also been working during that time with Mike Jagger on his solo album, "Wandering Spirit".

I thought to myself, "OF COURSE"! That’s why this album spoke to me so much back in 1993 when it was released.

This track, "Don’t Tear Me Up" has it ALL. A soft Stratocaster intro, an addictive snapping snare hit, Jagger’s hauntingly-soft vocals and the guitar! When the guitar riff hits during Mick’s lyric, "Don’t TEAR me up", I just melt.

It all started when…
I had this idea to share my thoughts and experiences on some of the greatest music albums out there. I wanted to write album reviews that were different from any other album reviews sites. I want to invoke passion in the reader. I want them to either agree, disagree, or be curious enough to have a new experience.

Unlike other music review websites, which are objective, I feel the best music review sites tell a story, not only about the album but about the person reviewing the album and how it influenced them.

Music is the greatest thing on this planet. It can heal the most broken heart. It can give confidence to those in need and it can bring us all closer together to one common goal.
