Safety Tips for Area Rugs and Throw Rugs

Problem: Area Rugs or Throw Rugs

fall risk due to sliding/rolling up/rippling, causing a tripping or slipping hazard

Solutions:

Take rugs up (Therapists’ #1 choice:)
Add a non-slip rug pad AND tape edges down (rug edges can still get rolled up and become a tripping hazard if not taped down)

If you have a pad beneath the rug, be sure to secure the rug edge to the pad and the pad to the floor. Apply the tape as close to the edge of the rug/pad as possible in order to secure the edge down.

The tape, XFasten Double Sided Carpet Tape, demonstrated in the video, had been in place in a main walkway for over a month without any sticky residue left on the floor when pulled up.
