Veteran Jazz Saxophonist Michael Zilber on the 2025 Album Standard Deviations

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Saxophonist Michael Zilber on the new 2025 album Standard Deviations.

We dig into this new duo CD with drummer Mike Clark and how Michael navigated the challenges of the COVID era. The last time we caught up was in 2020, and now we explore all the new activity, Growth, and inspiration leading up to this release.

Together, Zilber and Clark showcase their mastery of the jazz canon and popular songs, channeling the spirit of New York hard bop influenced by legends like Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Though separated by a continent—Zilber in Los Angeles and Clark in New York City—their reunions are powerful, driving, and deeply musical.
