With a distinguished 50-year career in the music industry, Thomas has shaped the future of American orchestras and continues to influence the global classical landscape.

He served as chief executive of both the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Cleveland Orchestra, and was the artistic director of California’s Ojai Music Festival. He also co-founded the innovative Spring for Music Festival at Carnegie Hall (2011–2014), a groundbreaking platform for North American orchestras.

Now active as a consultant, teacher, and author, Thomas shares insights from his remarkable career in his new book, Always the Music: How a Lifelong Passion Framed a Future for Orchestras. In this engaging conversation, we dive into his decades in the music business, his vision for the future of orchestras, and the personal stories that shaped his journey.
