The classic trucker jacket has earned its place in our closets, and of course, I still Love it, but style should never feel boring. One of the easiest ways to refresh your wardrobe without starting from scratch is exploring different types of denim jackets, especially when it comes to silhouette.
Quote of the day: “The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something is to go out and…Do it.” Susan Jeffers
So if you absolutely LOVE your denim jacket, I thought it might be beneficial to show some different types of denim jacket silhouettes.
And the best part? Mireille is also joining in on her blog, so click over to check out her thoughts.
For my crew, I had us all wear white pants and a striped top to emphasize the types of denim jackets. But we all chose different striped tops, the footwear, and accessories, which are individual.
It goes to show how even with the same prompt, we can all style our outfits so differently.
The traditional denim jacket is structured and somewhat boxy. It works wonderfully to casualize any outfit, but it also creates the same outfit formula over and over.
When you switch up the silhouette, you:
Think of it like this: your denim jacket doesn’t have to be basic. Instead, it can be the star.
It should come as no surprise that the iconic denim jacket has had its fame on my site in the past:
–Layered together
–Pink denim jacket
–Sure fire item
–Worn with a maxi

This is your laid-back, effortless option.
Worn open like a jacket, a denim shirt instantly feels softer and more relaxed than a traditional jacket. It’s perfect for layering without bulk.
Style tip: Don’t forget you could even belt it for a totally different shape.

If blue denim feels overdone, white denim is your fresh start.
We’ve even experimented with white denim in the fall season.
I love that it has the structure of a classic jacket but feels brighter, cleaner, and gives a pop to darker colors.
Style tip: If you worry about keeping it clean, then make sure you have a good non-toxic booster to soak it in before washing. I use this.

This is where structure meets personality.
A ruffled denim jacket adds movement and softness to a traditionally structured piece.

Polished. Tailored. Maybe a tad unexpected.
A denim blazer is for those days when you want to look put-together but still feel comfortable.
Style tip: I feel like almost all denim blazers have stretch, but make sure you check. The spandex allows you to move in the jacket even if it’s fitted.

Now this is the answer if you don’t like feeling constricted.
A denim cape is dramatic, fashion-forward, and a total conversation starter.
Style tip: This is the perfect option if you like wearing capes or your tops have bat sleeves, but you still need a layer.
There are a ton more types of denim jackets to consider, but I ran out of models to showcase them:

Instead of wearing identical outfits, we each chose similar elements and styled them in our own way. This is helpful because you can gain inspiration without having to buy the exact same pieces.
Think of it as a formula: same pieces, different personalities.

White pants were the common thread that tied our looks together. Each of us styled them based on our preferred silhouette, proving that one piece can work for every body and every style personality.

If there’s one print that never lets you down, it’s stripes.
Our striped tops added just enough pattern to keep things interesting without competing with our different denim jacket silhouettes. And if you worry that stripes make you look bigger, then stop. First, it’s good to take up space, and second, why is looking big considered bad?
Stripes are one of those pieces that quietly do a lot of work, and we show how they can be so different, too.

Shoes are where personality really starts to shine.
Even with similar outfit foundations, our footwear choices took each look in a completely different direction.
It’s a good reminder that your shoes may only take up a ninth of your overall look, but can still make an impact.

And of course… the finishing touches that I believe no outfit should be without.
Accessories are where you can truly make an outfit your own, and my crew did not disappoint.

I would say that we have proven you can incorporate these different types of denim jackets into your closet.
Unfortunately, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking we need more clothes to look stylish.
But often?
We just need different shapes.
And one of the easiest ways to do that is to consider different types of denim jackets.
If your closet is full of the same styles, it’s not a wardrobe problem; I consider it a variety problem.
Yes, we oftentimes buy the same thing over and over because it works for us, but sometimes you have to try something different to find out if something else will work as well, or even better.
So next time you’re tempted to grab another standard trucker jacket, pause and ask yourself:
Could I find a different type of denim jacket with a particular silhouette?
And make sure to check out Mireille’s ideas.
Because style isn’t about having more.
I would bet you dollars to donuts that having the confidence to try something new will be very uplifting.
