3 Easy Alternatives for a Denim Jacket

If you’ve been getting dressed in these last 10 years, you probably own a denim jacket. And for good reason! It’s classic, versatile, and always fine.
But what if you have denim jacket fatigue? With that in mind, I had my crew style 3 fabulous alternatives for that denim jacket.

Quote of the day: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Wayne Gretzky

Why even worry about alternatives for the iconic denim jacket?
Maybe looking like every other woman out there isn’t what you’re going for.

Sometimes we want something interesting or just a tad different.
And sometimes we just want to feel like we didn’t grab the same piece as everyone else in the room.

That’s why we talked about different denim jacket silhouettes earlier this week.
Or maybe you want to search your closet for some of these retro jackets that are trending.

Leaning into something more unique, today we are talking about some great alternatives to a denim jacket.

I hope you join my email Family. It’s the place where I share things even before creating on my blog. It’s also my space for fun and positive content. In addition, you also get my free eBook when you sign up, but that’s not the best part.
The best part is being part of my community, where we inspire and lift each other up.

Stylist backstory: I can’t remember if I requested that we all wear dresses and sneakers, but it’s a great way to see the same concept yet styled differently.

Alternatives For A Denim Jacket For Older Women

Why Look for Alternatives for a Denim Jacket?

Before we jump into the outfits, let’s talk about why you might want to branch out.

1. You want something less expected

Denim jackets are everywhere. Swapping them out instantly makes your outfit feel more intentional and unique.

2. You’re craving variety in your closet

If you’re wearing your denim jacket on repeat, chances are your outfits are starting to feel a little…same-same.

3. You want to elevate your look

Denim leans casual. Which is great, but not always the vibe. Sometimes you want a piece that tells a different story.

4. Fit and comfort preferences change

Let’s not ignore this one. Sometimes denim just doesn’t feel as soft, flexible, or forgiving as we’d like anymore. At times, it’s the jacket, and sometimes it is just how we feel that day.

Stylist tip: Many of these you might already have in your closet, even though they are called retro (like we discussed last month), or you might search the thrift stores, but otherwise I rounded up a selection below that are under $100.

1. Charlotte’s Pick: The Shacket

Charlotte styled a shacket, and this piece is truly the best of both worlds.

There are a couple of reasons why a shacket might be better than a denim jacket:
-It’s softer than denim
-More casual and relaxed
-Easier to layer under or over if it’s really chilly

My mom wore it over her silk floral dress along with her glitter sneakers. Don’t you just Love the colors going on in this look?

Details:

-My mom has worn this shacket with a navy dress and heels in the past. The dress has been featured in our brights from day to night article.
-Glitter sneakers may not be on your list to buy, but man, they have been a great addition to my mom’s closet. They give comfort with pizazz for any type of outfit.

2. Valerie’s Pick: The Lady Jacket

Valerie went in a different direction with a lady jacket.

There are a couple of reasons why a lady jacket might be better than a denim jacket:
-It has more structure
-Seems a bit dressier
-Gives off a more elegant vibe

Details:

-Even though Valerie stuck to a black and white outfit, the look is in no way a snoozefest. The varying textures give it such a snazzy appearance. If you are new to thinking about texture, then check out the nubs on the lady jacket and the material of the purse.
-This purse used to be Valerie’s mom’s purse. I love keeping sentimental pieces like that.
-And notice the white sneakers. While they are a majority of white, the floral pattern adds pizazz to make the look more fun and unique.

3. Jodie’s Pick: The Bomber Jacket

For my option of alternatives to a denim jacket, I picked a bomber jacket.

There are a couple of reasons why a bomber jacket might be better than a denim jacket:
-Gives a sporty vibe
-So many fabric choices and/or color options

I paired this bomber over a floral dress that my mom made ages ago.

Details:

-This dress has been worn for different occasions with different shoes and accessories. And the bomber is from way back in 2015.
-The jacket seemed too long, so I pinned up the front panels (with safety pins) to give them a diagonal edge.
-Adding a pop of yellow with my sneakers and accessories really lightens the look.

3 Options For Alternatives For A Denim Jackets

Final Thoughts

If your denim jacket has become your default, this is your sign to shake things up.

It comes down to having more options. It’s not about replacing your denim jacket.
Variety is the spice of life, and having other spices in your seasoning drawer makes your food more tasty.

As I always discuss…style isn’t about having the “right” piece. It’s more about how you style it and have the choices that feel like “you” on any particular day.
And remember, no one really wants to feel just “fine“. Go for fun, bold, and fabulous instead with our ideas of alternatives to a denim jacket.

Heck, there are definitely more ideas out there, but I ran out of models…giggle, giggle.
