Greed, Not Peace: Trump’s Board of Extortion
by Bob Gatty
Donald Trump, who’s threatening to attack Greenland because Norway hasn’t given him the Nobel Peace Prize, is in hot water with European leaders who are resisting his threat to take over that tiny country that’s home to less than 60,000 people and a bunch of polar bears, puffins, and other Arctic wildlife.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb jokingly suggested the other day in an interview with The Washington Post that Trump needs to relax and that “sauna diplomacy” would be the way to go. When things get heated, Stubb said, “sometimes it’s good to slow down, go to the sauna, take a nice bath, and then find a solution.”
Trump’s solution is simple. Just give him that Nobel Peace Prize and everything will be fine. After all, he’s ended eight wars and is a man of total peace who now has come up with a new reason for becoming a Nobel laureate — his new Board of Peace. But typical Trump, that, too, is all about the Money as he wants to charge member countries $1 billion to join. So, from attacking Venezuela over oil (not drugs) to threatening Greenland (over greed, not Security), Trump clearly has made his case for peace.
After a “very good call” with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, said there is “no going back” on his demand for Greenland. “As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for National and World Security. There can be no going back –On that, everyone agrees!”
Well, not exactly everyone. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen warned today that although military conflict is unlikely, it’s possible if Trump keeps pushing. “It’s not likely there will be a military conflict, but it can’t be ruled out,” he said.
And once again this “peace president” pulled out his favorite bullying tool — tariffs — threatening to impose 10% tariffs against countries that oppose his Greenland takeover bid, an action that didn’t sit well with those nations’ leaders. And France? Trump said if French President Emmanuel Macron doesn’t agree to pay the $1 billion and join his Board of Peace, then he’ll impose a 200% tariff on French wine and champaign. That threat and his broader 10% tariff threat against other products didn’t sit well with Wall Street today, with the Dow Jones Industrials down 850 points at mid-afternoon. However, it likely won’t matter much to his MAGA faithful, who are much more likely to consume brewskies than fancy French wine or champaign.
“The use of tariffs against allies is completely wrong,” U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said at a news conference. “A trade war is in no one’s interests.”
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store pointed out to Trump in an exchange of text messages that his country really has no input over who is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. But here’s what Trump said:
“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Trump wrote in the text, which was first reported by PBS.
However, Trump does think of Peace — the Board of Peace — because the grifter-in-chief has decided it’s a cool way to grab up a ton of money. How much of that would he stick in the fingers of his tiny hands? Who knows?
So, here we have the action of a mad egomaniac who apparently has dreams of ruling the world. He’s not content with wrecking the United States of America, he also has designs on Canada, Greenland, Venezuela, and who knows what other countries. Isn’t he the guy who once suggested Gaza would make a great location for fancy hotels and casinos?
Greed. That’s all that matters to Trump. Not peace.
Remember, people, there are mid-term elections coming up and by electing Democrats, we can all play a part in getting rid of this tyrant.
