Ep. 356 – Lucky Is a Lie; The Work Behind Success

  1. Ep. 356 – Lucky Is a Lie; The Work Behind Success The On Purpose Podcast 14:23

Are they really lucky… or are you just seeing the highlight reel?

Tag someone who needs this reminder,

It’s easy to look at someone’s success and say, “They got lucky.”

What’s harder is seeing the early mornings.
The sacrifices.
The setbacks.
The years of showing up when nobody was watching.

When we label someone’s success as luck, we often ignore the work that made it possible.

And sometimes, if we’re honest, calling it luck protects us from asking a tougher question:

What would happen if I committed to my goals with that same level of consistency?

The truth is, most success stories aren’t built on luck.
They’re built on intentional choices repeated over and over again.

So instead of saying, “Must be nice,” try asking:

“What did you do to get there?”

That question can change everything.

This week, celebrate the effort—not just the outcome.

What’s one sacrifice you’ve made in pursuit of something meaningful?

I am a retired police officer (though that money is set aside for our future selves, because we did so at a young age, 46) who now travels the country with my wife and our puppy living full time out of our Airstream.

We run a successful podcast, The On Purpose Podcast in which we share weekly episodes interviewing all sorts of fascinating people we meet around the country who are living their lives with purpose. It's been a fascinating run over the past 4 years and we love growing our purposeful living community around the world.
